Repeating the Rasmus trade?

Post by Carp4Cy »

If we traded Noot, what would that get us? What do we need? Noot should we worth at least as much as Colby, if not more. And Colby’s trade won us a WS.

Rasmus was considered to have much more upside at the time

Why? Just because of his draft order?
A lot of people consider Noot to have considerable upside.

Gorman is probably a better comp. Also a major prospect who has shown flashes but hasn’t put it together. Could look like a good chance of scenery candidate to another team.

I actually think Gorman or Noot would get back more in theory than the Rasmus return. But probably not as much in reality since those guys won the 2011 team a ring. You’d have to catch lighting in a bottle to get that good of a return again

I don't see them trading Nootbaar. He can play all 3 OF positions, has potential, and is fairly cheap. They most likely attempt to deal older, bigger contracts.

Gorman may be a better comp, but probably the best comp on the table would be Jordan Walker.

Not me. And he is not considered a loose cannon. Colby and his pappy drove LaRussa crazy and he pushed for the trade. I like Nootbaar, but I don't think he is particularly desirable for other teams. He is sound defensively, but inconsistent offensively. He would not bring back a big return without a package around him.

Old players with big contracts don’t get us a return. Unless we want to trade for someone else old in return like Goldschmidt?

You may be right. I was originally thinking he might be too valuable still, but now that i think about he’s not too far off from paralleling Rasmus’ time with the Cards (minus all the drama).

If they decide to stick with the "reset", then they will focus on purging contracts. The team has put ownership and the front office in a position they weren't expecting. Will be interesting to see what they do at the deadline.

That might not even work at this point. A smart player with an NTC would likely veto a trade to a team that is behind us in the standings or that we just beat in the regular season.

ImageYounger player who doesn’t get much PT.

Gorman

Maybe a prospect where they have surplus. Catcher? One that doesn’t project that high.

Probably. But would say, Arenado turn down a trade to LA?

The Cardinals received VERY little value in the Rasmus trade. It was probably considered addition by subtraction.

Yea, the Rasmus trade was probably more driven by the drama. I mean when he was traded he had a .753 OPS/108 OPS+ following an .859 OPS/132 OPS+. So really he wasn’t doing that bad. Much better than Walker/Gorman have done the last couple years.

I would say they got a VERY good return they got several players that were important in their winning the World Series
