Contreras the RBI machine?

Post by Monsieur De Treville »

WillyCon got off to a disastrous start. And why in the wide, wide world of sports was he batting second?

At cleanup he's an RBI machine.

RBI in his last 10 games.
26 RBI in his last 30 games.
On pace for a 95 RBI season.

Guy was born to hit cleanup. I think Hurdy Gurdy, WillyCon, and Ivan the Terrible make a heckuva middle of the order.

What say you, CT members?

Why 2-spot? Obsession w/LRLRLR and maybe lack of trust in Winn after badspring? My best guess anyway. Noot seems ideal for 2-spot w moderate speed/pop/good OBP but also disrupts LRLRLR. Hard not to like the middle of the order. Best in quite awhile.

+1. Great that Oli finally made the adjustment to the lineup. It was overdue imo.

I was screaming in every GDT about Oli wasting him in the #2 hole too!

WillyC is a MOTO hitter, the best we have.

But we need another one to pair w/him.

Could be Ivan, may have to come in the offseason.

Why would Willie not have the same results batting 4th at the beginning of the year?

Mock threads aren’t that far off from his real perspective. Just a few days ago he argued Burleson should take over for WC. WC…from bench player to MVP in 5 days!

He’ll be back on Shady’s bench after a game or two. Maybe even an AB.

Fair enough...

But....

How many "very average players" have :

1. 3 All Star games +
2. World Series ring +
3. Career .808 OPS & 116 OPS+

If he stay healthy, he'll drive in 90-100 runs this season. An integral part of the 2025 Cardinal's team.

Contreras now has an rbi in 13 or 14 straight games and is on pace for over 100 RBI. My memory is failing...whom exactly is the last Cardinal to drive in 100 or more runs in a season?
