You dont have to blow smoke to tout the Cards record with above 500 teams. Not a small sample, this is the best defensive team in baseball.

The real question is what does ownership do if the ballclub is a handful of games back in the division race and in a WC playoff spot come the trade deadline?

Does Fedde, MIkolas, Arenado, Helsley etc. go on the block or do they add a bat and an arm ?

I still don't see a team capable of getting through to and winning a WS title but I do see a team that is fun to watch. I see a base of talent going forward if fed more from the farm like Weatherholt and Saggese and finding a true ACE starter away from being real contenders.

In short this is a better team than I thought and could be hanging in the playoff hunt all year.

Which is a duel edge sword since it means they won't deal Fedde, Helsley and maybe Nado to further stock the farm and turn over the playing time to all the kids. Gorman sits on the bench when he should play more. And Burleson as well. And we need to give more innings to some of the pitcers from the farm. Let's find out. They are no longer works in progress either they are or are not what we hope.

Whatever. Life isn't always linear. Maybe they make a real charge in 2026.

I know this may be a useless comparison but Dodgers have two and a half to three times Cards payroll. They only have two more wins (and played one more game).
