Edman with LA

Post by nighthawk »

240/.287/.444/.731 - 331 PAs

That's okay for a utility player, but it's not quite the value he was with the Cards. He just turned 30.

He seems to be hitting for more a bit more power with a bit less on base than he did with us. Yea, good player with good value for us when he was here. Not a guy you want to commit to long term. Especially when your cup overflows with middle infielders like the Cardinals currently.

It was the right move to trade him, but I can see an argument where you could say that they should have traded him for more of a prospect than a guy like Fedde, but who knows who was offering what, and it seems like the Dodgers had a specific need for him, so it is what it is.

But yea, easy call. And he was hurt at the time. Even easier.

Considering the MLB hitting average is .244, that puts him in an average group and a fine utility player with a good team.

There was also an nlcs mvp and a .988 OPS in the WS of which the dodgers won. I’d say the dodgers are pretty happy with the acquisition. Edman would also currently be leading the cardinals in HRs even though he’s already been on the IL

Umbers with Dodgers pretty good. Don’t understand the critique being negative. Wish we still had him. Rather him than Arenado, Gorman, etc.

He hit his 8th home run on April 22nd. So only 1 over the last 6-7 weeks and not hitting for a lot of average.

Of course, he was on the IL for it.

Very good fit for that team, and I'm sure a fan favorite gor his style of play.

I was shocked we got a guy like Fedde for Edman considering he hadn’t played at all for us and was coming off wrist surgery.

LA has been very happy with him considering he helped them win a WS. But he wouldn’t have helped us much at all honestly. And the fact that he’s getting on base less for the Dodgers than for us is amazing considering that was his weak point as a player.

Probably the sanest take I've seen on it. Even with what we know now, I'd still make that trade. Though, I'd say Edman wasn't really known for being an OBP guy anyway.

We needed (and need) a guy like Fedde more than we need a guy like Edman. All due respect to Tommy. I like him here, and I still think he's a gamer of a player.

I mean….from 2020-2023, his ops was probably like .705, so it not like he was killing it here.

His 3.9% BB rate this year is kinda nuts though

And ML average OBP? His .287 is 28 points below average(.315). That makes him well below average and a candidate for little more than defensive replacement/pinch runner duties.

And the Dodgers have him signed through 2029 making $12 million per year. Sadly, that doesn't even matter, being that it's the Dodgers.
