Let say the Sharks offer him 4.6m. That's only a 2nd coming from the Sharks but is way out of what I personally think the Blues would match.
I would let them know that we will match but we are open to a trade. I believe they have Quenton Musty.... I think we could make a deal.
They don't have Musty, but they have Oliver Bonk, a RHD from the 2023 draft. 8)
They also have Matvei Michkov, but they aren't giving him up (and probably not Bonk)

But a more realistic option would be Ryan Poehling, a LH center. He could maybe be a 3rd line center. But I'd rather try and pry Shane Pinto out of Ottawa if a 3rd line center was the target.

I dont understand why anyone is arguing anything. As long as he is qualified and one of the parties chose arbitration he can not be offer sheeted
Because as I told you before, you’re wrong. If it’s the Blues that choose arbitration, Hofer is still offer sheet eligible. And why should we assume Hofer will file for arbitration? Many RFAs who are arbitration eligible don’t file.

And Hofer wouldn’t even be able to file for arbitration until July 5th…so even if he did, he’d still be offer sheet eligible the first 5 days of July.

It’s not a huge risk but it’s not a zero risk.

So, I don't think another team would jump in. Especially without The insider information that lead to ours.
Would Edmonton have the cap for a offer sheet. And would they want to spend those assets?

I don't think so.
But if every gm don't know that Army would be willing to match up to 5 million. Not good.
Edmonton doesn’t have the cap room. Especially since they have an even bigger RFA to sign - Evan Bouchard.

But disagree another team wouldn’t do it. There’s plenty of teams that need goaltending and I wouldn’t be surprised if some of them view Hofer as worthy of being in a platoon situation for them or even their starter. Hofer isn’t ready to be a full time starter getting 60+ starts IMO but a situation where he’s viewed as sharing the crease 50/50 with another guy or even a 60/40 split could easily be viewed as being worth $4.68M, especially in the new cap environment.
Agree. I can't see the Oilers having the space to sign Hofer. Good news is they can only go to $4,680,076 because they don't have a 1st rounder next year. :)

It seems like the Flyers might be a good candidate. They seem to have the cap space and the picks.
BTW, I didn't realize the Flyers have so many picks for this year's draft. They have three #1's and four #2's, and one 3rd. 8O
Yeah, the Flyers have 7 of the first 48 picks this summer and 8 of the first 57, which is just crazy. You probably know this but it would be 2026 picks used for any offer sheets this summer though. But they have pretty much all of their 2026 picks too so yeah, they could easily try to poach Hofer.
I think If I'm Armstrong and the Flyers express an interest in Hofer I'd try and work out a trade before it got to an offer sheet. That's apparently what happened with Edmonton. He made some offers that they turned down so he forced their hand (and then offered up an extra sweetener to make sure they wouldn't match). The Flyers have a lot of good young players in their pipeline. Perhaps a guy like Spencer Gill or even Oliver Bonk could be had. 4.6M is more than what the Blues are going to want to pay Hofer but it wouldn't be impossible for them to match.
Agreed. Doubt we’d be able to pry away Bonk though. But yeah, the trade route would probably be ideal if it really came to a head.

And it’d also depend on the team trying to get Hofer. If it’s a team expected to be bad, their 2nd rounder would be around pick 35. If they’re middle of the road, 45ish. And if they’re good, closer to 60. The 35th overall pick is much more valuable than the 60th. So not all 2nds are the same.

We saw what happened when teams wanted Bishop.

Little different circumstances, but when the market is high for someone it forces things.

Oilers should take a run. Being a goaltender on that team for the next several years would be awesome.

He was talking about the Sharks, who do have Musty. But the Sharks also have Askarov so I doubt they're looking for a goalie.

Yeah we'd have to add to get them to part with Bonk. Could be worth pursuing if they expressed interest in Hofer though.

Ugh...sometimes my mind is somewhere other than what I'm reading.

I agree, Sharks are going to ride with Askarov.

A qualifying offer is not the same thing as electing arbitration. The Blues will obviously qualify Hofer, or else he'd become a UFA. Hofer will not agree to the qualifying offer, which is standard procedure.

Hofer is free to sign an offer sheet with anybody as of July 1. Arbitration is something that could happen later in summer if he does not sign an offer sheet.

yes, but not because of revenge, but because they think he still has a lot of growth, and still has 3-4 years till he begins to hit his peak as a goalie, if he has a peak.

Everyone has a peak. It just depends on how high it is

That may be the way of the future. But offer sheets isn't a thing to happen much. Which was the point. Even though each year many of teams have the same needs as many of rfas play. It's not a thing. They do happen but just don't happen much outside of payback. You disagree.

As for whether hofer is ready or not. I disagree. But I agree that's what dougie would say.

You don’t think Hofer would be ready for a platoon situation? Go look at some of the goaltending the bottom 5-6 teams got this season. Many of them would love to have a young goalie like Hofer. Someone that’s probably better than what they already have and has room to grow into a starter.

As for if a team would actually offer sheet Hofer…idk. TBD. Offer sheets aren’t likely but he’s a prime candidate, that’s for sure.

If he does sign an offer sheet, I expect it to be the exact same move the Blues did with Broberg - the exact highest dollar where the compensation would be a 2nd round pick. For this year, that’d be $4,680,076.

Hofer isn’t worth that. But Broberg wasn’t really worth his deal either…until he was. Would the Blues wreck their cap to keep Hofer at that number? I have my doubts. But would a team be willing to give Hofer that much? I have my doubts on that too.

In the end, I guess we’ll see.
Not many goalies net 1st round picks in trades except tip of league goalies. For an unestablished starter withupsude- 2nd is a fair return for hofer. Especially since we have another prospect ellis that we can turn to for post binny.
