It might be another one of those things that wasn't really a baseball decision. You think attendance has been sparse so far- I think they were afraid it would be even worse than this if they unloaded those players before the season, so they kept them, and in their words at least, began to backpedal on the re-set talk, and spoke more about being competitive too in an effort to preserve attendance.

The results of the off season show what his priority was he even said he wasnt trying to trade helsely and zero chance he gets a better deal for him now than in the off seasonrockondlouie wrote: ↑06 Jun 2025 10:52 amWasn't referring to them, I was one of them too, just the lamenting Mo didn't deal him w/the way he's struggling.Ozziesfan41 wrote: ↑06 Jun 2025 09:22 amIt’s not hindsight many people said in the offseason they should have moved him while he was at peak value because there was very little chance he would repeat as good of a year as he had last year and his value would only go down and there is no chance the cardinals would sign him to an extension. It is easy obvious and correct. Mo could have got a good deal for him if he wasn’t busy making his 1,2 and 3 priorities trade arenadorockondlouie wrote: ↑06 Jun 2025 08:38 am While hindsight is 20/20 I can't fault Mo here.
Even though he's struggling and having (for him) and off year I'm glad they held on to him since Oli would have no closer if he had been dealt.
He'll still be the TOP closer on the market at the deadline IF the Cardinals fall way behind in the NLC or WC chase.

You have no idea if Mo could've "got a good deal" for him, he may still be dealt and Mo may get an ever better deal from a desperate team.

How about the Cardinals do not need any position player who can't hit 25 or more HRs? We can always use a future Cy Young candidate.Talkin' Baseball wrote: ↑06 Jun 2025 13:15 pm It might be another one of those things that wasn't really a baseball decision. Lol. Trying to trade one player is not a 24/7 job. It was reported that they weren’t getting great offers for Helsley bc teams wanted to try internal options or free agents before trading prospects, which makes sense. You’re going to get more for a player like Helsley at the deadline than you will in the offseason.rockondlouie wrote: ↑06 Jun 2025 13:30 pmAgreedOzziesfan41 wrote: ↑06 Jun 2025 13:08 pmWell with Mo making his 1, 2 and 3 priority trading Arenado he wasnt really doing hard negotiations for anyone else.
