101 is speculating Steve Ott might be in play. Dallas roots.
I could see that. He played a decent chunk of his career there and has been rumored for HC jobs for the past couple of seasons.

It makes sense, but I don’t know if Nill will go the rookie route for a coach and as already mentioned looks like the Stars will be transitioning a bit, so would Ott be walking into a trap? I will say, though, Ott would be a good choice in terms of personality to follow DeBoer.

Also agree with the others about Torts. He makes the NHL more interesting when he is employed :D

Wow... I blocked that out of my mind. I HATED Ott as a Star—such a PR#CK.
On the other hand, he was a joy to watch in a Bluenote.

With making the finals 3 years straight, and bowing out each time, they probably need some decent turnover and a fresh outlook.

I agree with that for sure. If the expectations are reasonable and they do know they may have to take a small step back, I have to think Ott would be considered.

With this, combined with the rumors of Robertson being available, Dallas might have a very rough off season.
Funny how two months they seemed unstoppable. Maybe a little buyers remorse creeping in re how much they just gave Rantanen. Johnston awol in the playoffs. Oettinger doing a Turek. After Heskanen their D is really not that impressive. Wonder if this firing means Robertson is staying or are they freeing up cap space to make a run at Marner?
Stars have zero remorse as they should with Rantanen. When you can get a player like him, you do it.

Deboer is such a turd, as has been proven time and time again, but the sad part is he’ll be back behind another team’s bench in time for training camp.

True but this latest deal of another Conference loss with the Oettinger fiasco ... I dunno.

The carousel has to stop sometime.

The Oettinger quote was pretty wild for a coach to say publicly.
it's been a long time since I've seen a coach body a player publicly like that.

Thing is though he won't be unemployed for long. My guess is he is in Vancouver next year.
Hitchcock did it to Tarasenko and got fired. What Berube did/said about Thomas/Kyrou also played a part in his firing.

Berbube’s statements were far, far worse

That was my first thought upon hearing the news. And I think it's possible that if Ott could bring Claude Julien as his Assistant Coach/Consultant, that could allay any concern about Ott not having Head coaching experience. They now have experience working together and knowing how each other think and operate. Awhile back folks wondered about Julien remaining here, since he was brought in before Montgomery. No bad reflection on any of these folks whatsoever. But Julien's need here and role now may not be as crucial?
After all, our special teams have not been top shelf, so maybe bringing in someone else here is timely.
We'll see what happens.

BobbyBlue wrote: 06 Jun 2025 09:54 am Otter WAS NOT the REASON Dallas lost that series…and they are not in that series without him…to pull him after (2) goals in Game (7) on defensive lapses that were not his fault…and to throw him under the bus Post Game…is a Fireable Offense…IMO…guy just does not have a long shelf life…see ya…
Deboer set the tone of the loss by claiming before game 5 that they had to score first. Then when they found themselves down 1-0 early... it basically deflated the whole team, because he had just announced publicly they couldn't win without scoring first

Then he panicked because of it and pulled Otter... even though both goals were due to horrendous defensive lapses.

Then claimed Otter was at fault for losing 6 of 7 games to Edmonton -- he called it a large sample size. That's hilarious considering Deboer's 6 straight conference final defeats are a far bigger sample size of failure.

After the press conference... he was finished in that locker room. No players had his back, and nor should they have. He's a terrible leader when it counts.
