Are the wheels falling off?

Post by Monsieur De Treville »

Lost the last two series. 5-5 in the last 10. Dodgers coming to town.

Are the wheels about to fall off? Is this train coming to a stop? Is this a sinking ship? Has this pilot been grounded?

Or...

Was it over when The Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? When the going gets tough, will the tough get going? Tough times won't last, but will this tough team last?

What say you, CT people?

The 5-5 the last 10 games is not LOSING baseball . So the Dodgers are coming to town .. they are 6-4 the last 10 games ... one game better than the Cardinals 5-5 . Big deal ! Obviously in the past 10 games, the Dodgers were not beating everyone 10-0 , nor 9-1 , not 8-2 ,or 7-3
Other teams found ways to win one less than half the games .. so can the Cardinals . Are the Cardinal players supposed to be shaking in their red shoes because the word Dodgers is written on their unis ?

Libby no bueno for two starts in a row. Hopefully he rights the ship. Pitching needs to be better.

Every team goes through rough stretches though, but it isn’t getting easier with LA and Toronto coming to town and then a trip to Milwaukee after that.

They are an exciting team to watch, and I hope a lot of people come out to see them this summer. But I also wouldn't mind if they fall out of the race in the coming month, and sell at the deadline (with Bloom deciding who comes back on the deals).

Yet again, we seem to be playing to the level of our competition. Both Texas and Kansas City were ripe for taking advantage of. Instead we played Chump Ball for two series.

Both of those teams are probably really a level above the Cardinals, especially KCR. No thing to be ashamed or shocked about.

The starting pitching is what it is. It's average for the most part and its showing. Overall the team is still much better than I thought it was going to be.

Well they started off way worse than this and rebounded plenty fine, so even playing the way they have, they still look way much better than they did at the beginning of the season.

But it was always going to depend on the pitching. I don't think anyone truly thought it was as good as it had been the first couple months of the season. And of course they have been pretty lucky when it comes to injuries with the MLB rotation, so that could be a factor down the line as well. Liberatore is going to be one to watch as he has never had a full season workload as a starter, due to mismanagement from the front office, so I would look for him to tire out later in the season.

On the positive side, we've seen Jordan Walker look like maybe he's starting to come around, so when he gets back maybe that will help. Quinn Mathews appears to be healthy, so if he can stay healthy and pitch well in Memphis, maybe he can be a factor later in the season. McGreevy is coming up for the sixth man rotation in June, so maybe he doesn't leave and continues to pitch well and bolster the rotation.

The bad news about all this is that we may end up missing out on trading guys that we should have traded for pieces that would have helped in the future. I guess one good way to look at that is that it's better to at least go down swinging and build the team back up rather than just lie down, even if that might have been the smart thing to do. Besides, the time to sell would have been a year or two ago anyway.

Agreed they could miss out. Like in 23/24 they traded Jack and a few others a got Saggese Prieto and Roby along with a few others (King). Not bad at all with Saggese looking like an everyday player.

It would be very nice if they could flip a few of these players and load up one more time. Along with getting high prospects like this year and last this thing could turn into a juggernaut.

They are the defending Champs and a better team than either the Rangers or Royals. Who knows...we may sweep them...but I won't pretend it's not a daunting task.
