Yes on Barrero. Especially in game 1 w/ VSII getting a break. That OF defensive alignment was scary bad. Barrero should have been in CF for game 1. Really, Vilade should have been up to sit on the bench, PH if needed, while Barrero assumed Walker's role. Next man up.Futuregm2 wrote: ↑05 Jun 2025 22:27 pm I was hopeful that with Walker out we might at least see Gorman some more. Since he was put on the IL though? Gorman has 1 start in 5 games.
The other player I don’t get is Barrero. The guy went 3 for 10 in 3 starts after being called up in late April with his last start being an 2 for 4 day with a double and a HR and then since then has gotten 1 start over 28 days. I barely even realize he exists on the roster. We have a double header against 2 LHP’s and he doesn’t even make an appearance at all while Vilade gets 2 starts.
Am I wrong here?!?!

Re: Am I wrong here?!?!
Yea, Gorman has been the odd man out in terms of "runway." Oli loves him some Burleson, so the moment he shows some positive offense, he's going to get any and all starts and pinch hitting opportunities. But to be fair to Oli, Gorman has sucked a lot, and Burleson has hit really well lately. Is that a result of the runway he has been given? Well, who knows?
As to Barrero, I've wondered the same thing. He's looked decent in his short time that he's been given. He can play defense all over the place. He can run. Why can't he get any more playing time? I don't expect him to get a lot of starts, but a double header, especially when you're throwing out horrid outfield defense the first game, would have been a good time to get him one. I get that maybe they want to get Vilade in there right away and get him going, but come on.

Starting Vilade in both games is baffling, especially after what he showed in Game 1, and especially when you have Barrero covered in cobwebs on the bench.Ronnie Dobbs wrote: ↑06 Jun 2025 07:34 am Yea, Gorman has been the odd man out in terms of "runway." Yes, you are wrong hereMonsieur De Treville wrote: ↑05 Jun 2025 19:19 pm So hear me out...this was the year we were going to play a guy like Norman Gorman nearly every day. He just turned 25...it's now or never to see what we have.
What the Hades happened? I get it...they didn't trade Nado. And when Norman did get a chance he didn't thrive. But come on...in his last 7 games he has a .978 OPS. His last 15 games his OPS is a respectable .733. He hits a home run on Tuesday and we have a double header and Oli can't get him in the lineup?
I know, I know...two lefties. But allow me to point out that Norman has, up until the last year or so, always played against lefties in his pro career. Let's also face it...Nado isn't hitting a lick. We couldn't give him a blow during game 2? Or put Hurdy Gurdy in Left with Noot in right for game 2 with Norman at second?
The point of this rant? I don't know if Norman Gorman will ever be a successful mlb hitter. I really don't...but...there can be no doubt that he is being criminally mishandled by Oli and the Cards! It looks like we won't learn a dern thing about this kid until he goes somewhere else where he can play everyday.

Maybe that’s the issue! Guys this is easy. Gorman is a victim of success. Not his . The team.
Once we got hot, you can’t start him. Can’t change what is working. So he sat. And they kept winning. And he kept sitting.
What he needs to play is for the team to sink. Then he can replace the ailing.

IF
IF the plan is still to move NADO by the end of the trading deadline, then you CAN'T sit him.
I see your point but NADO has to play if they want to have any shot at dealing him.

Adrift without a cogent plan.

If not traded (again) by the deadline - N/A should be benched.rockondlouie wrote: ↑06 Jun 2025 08:32 am IF

Better yet, released.
Super Slo Mo and The Marmot possess neither the guts nor the intelligence to do either.

But if he's not dealt by the deadline and if the Cards are out of contention, then he has to sit and Gorman plays at least three times a week if not more.
But Oli doesn't have the balls to do it.

Re: Am I wrong here?!?!
The OP is not wrong.
This season was about runway for Gorman and Walker. JW had been getting some before the injury. NG not so much. Oli says he'll get 315 at bats this season. That doesn't cut it. Oli would rather see Burleson in RF. I don't get it.
Gorman can provide close to average defense at 2 key positions, 2B and 3B. They need to see him unlock is bat.
At this point NG is going to be traded and break out somewhere else. Then all of Cardinal Nation will (buzz) and moan that they pulled another Arozarena. Nothing has changed.

Re: Am I wrong here?!?!
At least the difference in the two is Arozarena got 23 PAs and had an .891 OPS in those 23 PAs. Gorman has gotten 1,292 PAs and has a .727 OPS in those PAs. And over the last 2 seasons it’s .662 OPS over 515 PAs.RunSup wrote: ↑06 Jun 2025 11:00 am The OP is not wrong.

Whether Gorman plays a little or a lot. He still strikes out way too often.
