Re: Another Mo screw up… Not trading Helsley in the off-season
I thought trading Helsley made sense over the winter. Hopefully they can move him at the deadline. I think a long term contract would be disastrous.
Re: Another Mo screw up… Not trading Helsley in the off-season
They don't want to hear about that.

They have no chance at the division...last wild card yes .RamFan08NY wrote: ↑05 Jun 2025 16:08 pmDitto. It's not like any of those guys are going to return high ranking prospects in a trade. The Cards are still in play to win the Central. Why cash out?
...division no

im a life long cards fan since 61 62 and have lived all over the U S
when ever i would be wearing a cardinal hat or shirt i always got the same not another ahole cardinal
in my experience the cardinals are looked at by other fans as some of the worst. the best fans in baseball shtick didnt help either!
the only fans that are seen as worse than the cardinal fans in my travels are the former oakland raiders, yankees and cards /red sox tied for third
its kind of a perspective thing and much like the balls strikes calls with umpires, you see the bad calls that go against your team and ignore or praise the catcher for stealing a strike when the calls go against the other team.
it really funny when watching a game you have no rooting interest in with fans of both teams crying about the umps calls!

Sure. As with most players.

While hindsight is 20/20 I can't fault Mo here.
Even though he's struggling and having (for him) and off year I'm glad they held on to him since Oli would have no closer if he had been dealt.
He'll still be the TOP closer on the market at the deadline IF the Cardinals fall way behind in the NLC or WC chase.

No hindsight.
It was prudent to move him if the right deal presented itself.
Maybe it did not, none of us know that.
Yes he will have value at the deadline but the club was and is taking a chance by not moving him at his peak value.

They aren’t the future, they’re not going to get any better then they are currently, younger players could replace them……if I see NA pop up with runners in scoring position one more time. Or Helsley blow what should be an easy save for an elite closer….you can get that kind of production from the Yutes and hopefully they improve and get better…..

Re: Another Mo screw up… Not trading Helsley in the off-season
It’s not hindsight many people said in the offseason they should have moved him while he was at peak value because there was very little chance he would repeat as good of a year as he had last year and his value would only go down and there is no chance the cardinals would sign him to an extension. It is easy obvious and correct. Mo could have got a good deal for him if he wasn’t busy making his 1,2 and 3 priorities trade arenadorockondlouie wrote: ↑06 Jun 2025 08:38 am While hindsight is 20/20 I can't fault Mo here.

Most of the players that people here want to trade away here are also players that get a significantGoldfan wrote: ↑06 Jun 2025 09:15 amThey aren’t the future, they’re not going to get any better then they are currently, younger players could replace them……if I see NA pop up with runners in scoring position one more time. amount of ridicule. That ridicule might be a little inaccurate but not by a whole lot. Then it takes on the
position of a big mistake if not traded.
I find some inconsistencies there. Trading most of these players will likely bring back players that the
Cardinals already have, not the kind of player that they need to take a step forward. It's difficult to judge
that as some large error. Matz, Hels may get us something. Matz value IMO has increased with his play while
Hels has decreased some. How much is an unknown, but he probably hasn't dropped from a 10 to a zero.
For the team to get a player of impact they'll need to include a player that fans have traditionally wanted to keep or
one of the prospects with upside.

Wasn't referring to them, I was one of them too, just the lamenting Mo didn't deal him w/the way he's struggling.Ozziesfan41 wrote: ↑06 Jun 2025 09:22 amIt’s not hindsight many people said in the offseason they should have moved him while he was at peak value because there was very little chance he would repeat as good of a year as he had last year and his value would only go down and there is no chance the cardinals would sign him to an extension. You have no idea if Mo could've "got a good deal" for him, he may still be dealt and Mo may get an ever better deal from a desperate team.

Most of the premise of this position is not known or yet to happen.

Re: Another Mo screw up… Not trading Helsley in the off-season
Well with Mo making his 1, 2 and 3 priority trading Arenado he wasnt really doing hard negotiations for anyone else. The results of the off season show what his priority was he even said he wasnt trying to trade helsely and zero chance he gets a better deal for him now than in the off seasonrockondlouie wrote: ↑06 Jun 2025 10:52 amWasn't referring to them, I was one of them too, just the lamenting Mo didn't deal him w/the way he's struggling.Ozziesfan41 wrote: ↑06 Jun 2025 09:22 amIt’s not hindsight many people said in the offseason they should have moved him while he was at peak value because there was very little chance he would repeat as good of a year as he had last year and his value would only go down and there is no chance the cardinals would sign him to an extension.
