Hot Take: I don't think the 'Stros are crying about the Kyle Tucker deal.
Kyle Tucker: 12 HR, .918 OPS, 2.4 WAR.
Isaac Paredes 12 HR, .803 OPS, 1.9 WAR, FA 2028
Cam Smith .707 OPS, 1.1 WAR, FA 2032? (first round pick, 2024)
Hayden Wesneski 1-3 4.50 ERA, 0.3 WAR, 1.094 WHIP, FA 2030
Astros are currently tied in first place. And, they have a ton of player control between those three.
Good deal for the Astros.
Good deal for Chicago now. Let's see in a year or two if Chicago didn't overextend themselves.

Tucker is a free agent after the season they were not going to sign him long-term.

And they got a nice haul for him.imadangman wrote: ↑04 Jun 2025 21:39 pm Tucker is a free agent after the season they were not going to sign him long-term.

Houston is a smart org. (I hate) That's what smart orgs do. I hope we get smart. We have 4 guys who are walking at seasons end. Yet people want to hang on to them so we can chase a 3rd wildcard.imadangman wrote: ↑04 Jun 2025 21:39 pm Tucker is a free agent after the season they were not going to sign him long-term.

We have 5 with Maton, but honestly there were only 2.5 guys clamored about being held:
- Helsley (because Mo announced a fire sale, instantly diminishing his value - and he’d be worth more at the trade deadline to a desperate team)
- Fedde (because he’s getting paid peanuts and you need a serviceable arm in the rotation - especially if you unload Mik/Matz)
- Matz (the 0.5, because we needed arms in the pen and his overall value wouldn’t have brought any return - we’d dump him for nothing and still end up paying most his salary, so it made sense to have him as a BP/swing guy to allow a soft approach to bringing the young guys up from Memphis)
- No one wanted Mik
- Maton was signed because BDW/Mo were being ridiculed as the only org to not bring in a FA, and there was a need for a BP arm
Helsley is the only one worth considering extending. You can make an argument either way, it’s not my money so I say keep him. However BP contracts can be risky. Another risk is not having anyone to solidify the end of the game: you have to ask if we let Hels walk/trade at the deadline, who slots into the CL role?

I forgot about Maton. I'm like you it's not my money. But the Cardinals have a budget and no way they extend Helsley for what it will take. They will convert someone. Tink Hence?NorthernBird wrote: ↑05 Jun 2025 05:26 amWe have 5 with Maton, but honestly there were only 2.5 guys clamored about being held:

Yep. It would be pretty stupid to hang onto all of them. Need to move them and attempt to get a good return.2ninr wrote: ↑05 Jun 2025 04:01 amHouston is a smart org.
