Will cardinals draft any power bats?
If you noticed , the Cardinals overall scoring currently ranks 8th most runs. Pretty darn good !
What the Cardinals lack is the home run ball ranking 24th in MLB .
Quite anemic !
Hoping Bloom /Cerfio and boys can find a couple bats that can Jack some long ones for the future.
This C Rodriguez coming up could be one . Hoping Cardd can snare a thumper in upcoming draft.
Go Cards !

Re: Will cardinals draft any power bats?
LaViollette would be interesting but what they really need more specifically is right-handed power. Maybe Walker takes another step. It would be poetic if he developed into the primary run producer. Maybe he needs to look at Matt Holliday. He was tall and stood upright in his stance like Walker but in his swing was able to drop and drive. Similar to how Witt drove that ball out to CF yesterday. You can see we are going to be watching Witt for a long time.
Re: Will cardinals draft any power bats?
Witt is outstanding BOTH ways . Maybe Cardinals can get lucky and select a guy that turns out to be big time player. We did once with Pujols .imadangman wrote: ↑04 Jun 2025 14:46 pm LaViollette would be interesting but what they really need more specifically is right-handed power. Maybe Walker takes another step. Re: Will cardinals draft any power bats?
We have a terrible ballpark for home runs. It's going to be hard to develop consistent power hitters here.

I think the Royals deal with Witt is the best value in the game. Maybe the best value extension since the original 2004 Pujols extension.ramfandan wrote: ↑04 Jun 2025 15:54 pmimadangman wrote: ↑04 Jun 2025 14:46 pm LaViollette would be interesting but what they really need more specifically is right-handed power. I don't know, but my gut says, "maybe."

Generational talent like Pujols and McGuire aside, that is a cavernous venue.
And one of the reasons why the Cardinals generally focus on pitching in the draft.

Re: Will cardinals draft any power bats?
From what little I am reading from other sites, the hitters in the supplemental, 2nd, & 3rd rounds might provide the bat the Cardinals are looking to fill that role.
Re: Will cardinals draft any power bats?
the problem with drafting "power bats", is they usually come with massive slumps and a lot of K's.
Terry Fuller, Tre Fletcher, Elijah Cabell, William Sullivan, Josh Kross, etc, etc....it's always the same.
95-99% don't workout.

Re: Will cardinals draft any power bats?
Wonder if Brant Brown and the Cardinals minor league development program could help Jace LaViolette. The power-hitting potential is there.
Re: Will cardinals draft any power bats?
Aiva Arquette has 18 home runs in 59 games for Oregon State. He's your right-handed hitting power guy, if he's still there at #5. If he's athletic enough to play SS, he's athletic enough to play corner OF.
Re: Will cardinals draft any power bats?
he's not a power hitter, Cranny.
55/80 power with an aluminum bat. And his competition this season has gone down with Oregon State losing their Pac12 Conference status.
He's had a good career, but not a power hitter.
for comparison....Holliday has 65/80 power ...he's your lone power hitter in the Top 15 or so.
-------------
I wouldn't mind if he's picked by the Cards, but he's not a power hitter...he'll likely hit HR's to some degree...15-20 once he gets to the Majors
Re: Will cardinals draft any power bats?
The Cardinals are drafting one of the 3 top college starters with the 5th pick in the draft. If they aren't there, then Holliday or Hernandez fell to them. You take one of those 2 and run to the bank.
If you want power out of this draft it will have to come after the 1st round. It will be best player available.

Re: Will cardinals draft any power bats?
I agree. The Cardinals are in pretty good shape at #5. Considering Arnold, Doyle, Anderson, Holliday and Hernandez. Hernandez is the one they need to luck out on.RunSup wrote: ↑04 Jun 2025 18:54 pm The Cardinals are drafting one of the 3 top college starters with the 5th pick in the draft. MLB.com has him projected to hit 20-25 home runs at the MLB level. They say he has above average power.craviduce wrote: ↑04 Jun 2025 18:47 pmhe's not a power hitter, Cranny.

55 is above average...50 is average. 15-20 isn't a power bat. I don't see him getting 20-25 HR playing 81 games at Busch Stadium a year.Cranny wrote: ↑04 Jun 2025 19:00 pmMLB.com has him projected to hit 20-25 home runs at the MLB level. I'm not going to argue with you...he's a line drive hitter. And that's great....but he's not a Power hitter.....20-30 players hit more HR in College than he did this season
-------
You like him, and that's great....he's had a great career...he's going to have a good career. He'll hit more HR's than Wetherholt, but I only have JJ with 15 HR power personally...that's his ceiling
