Re: Bolduc v neighbours
I think, both optimistically and realistically, we will see Zack Dean as a 3 (or 4) C before DD. Defensive responsibility is exponentially more impotant in the NHL tha in any developmental league. ZD seems to have the head and heart for the 200-foot game that a 3, or 4, C must have in the big league.
I bet DD cuts his teeth as a winger. At least to start.

Re: Bolduc v neighbours
IMHO we need to have an NHL average 2C on this roster by opening night. If Thomas or Schenn get injured for any amount of time, we are screwed. I never want to see Buchnevich at Center ever again.

Re: Bolduc v neighbours
That IS the dream.
But who and for how much and/or for which players under contract here?
We can probably make what you ask for happen, but I still see Dean getting time at C before Dvorsky in the course of this coming season.

Re: Bolduc v neighbours
I think both players should stay on the team. They are both young and are showing they have what it takes to play in this league and play the Blues desired style.
I'd rather see others go before them to be honest.

Agreed. I’d prefer to move Schenn and/or Buchnevich to get the 2C or RD we need.dtkblueshockey wrote: ↑03 Jun 2025 22:14 pm I think both players should stay on the team. They are both young and are showing they have what it takes to play in this league and play the Blues desired style.

Re: Bolduc v neighbours
100% I really like these 2 players.
I don't really think you trade these guys for other forwards but maybe d at some point but even then I think these are our core guys that make picks/prospects/aging players expendable.

Neighbors is a bit smaller so I would have to give Bolduc the edge in the fight.

Schenn has a 15 team NTC that starts July 1 and Buchy has a full NTC. Neighbours and Bolduc have no trade protection.Galatians221jb1 wrote: ↑03 Jun 2025 22:36 pmAgreed. And again, the idea here would be this would only be an option in a year or two in a theoretical scenario where someone like Stenberg, Kaskimaki, etc is ready to step into the lineup and replace one of these guys. It’d be to move a player from an area of weakness (LW) to an area of strength and/or acquire a better player. So like Bolduc plus another asset for a player better than Bolduc.
I like both of these guys and don’t really want to get rid of either but this is just a theoretical exercise. You have to give to get. And eventually, we’re likely going to have too many wingers and will need to trade some of them.

Re: Bolduc v neighbours
Thanks for breaking my point down, AGAIN. I just dont see how everyone thinks we will fill our RD spot or to get whoever when the only options everyone wants to trade are only the guys that disappoint for too much money with a no trade clause. No one is giving us 2 1sts and knies for schenn. We are not doing a buch for rantanaan because “maybe dallas wants to save money? Unless these guys want to pay 10m or 12m for big name players in free agency. When was the last time we signed a star free agent?STL fan in MN wrote: ↑04 Jun 2025 07:27 amSchenn has a 15 team NTC that starts July 1 and Buchy has a full NTC. Yes I agree if the Blues have "too many" wingers of languishing value in Springfield they not just can but need to move them.STL fan in MN wrote: ↑04 Jun 2025 07:27 amSchenn has a 15 team NTC that starts July 1 and Buchy has a full NTC. But we are talking about who they move.
For me, a Holloway or Broberg or Neighbors or a projected Bolduc are still NOT the kind of players to move to get whatever. Any more than a DD or Snuggeraud is. And I don't think that's LaLa land thinking....I thinks it's prudent and smart and plenty of teams operate similarly. Trade two good winger prospects for a solid RD prospect. Go UFA. Take a chance on another Cam Fowler. Move solid prospects or picks before you move key proven players.
If we are talking Stanley Cup Champion here anytime soon they are going to have to be dam smart and careful in how they go about doing it.

Re: Bolduc v neighbours
Agree they’re going to have to be smart in the moves they make. But they’ll definitely have to make some moves over the next 2-3 years to get over the hump IMO. Hoping for another ROR type of trade. And it’s a simple fact that established players tend to have more value than unestablished prospects. But if let’s say the Blues are confident Stenberg is ready to be a solid 3LW in 2 years, that’s when someone becomes expendable. Yes, Stenberg himself could be the expendable asset but so too could it be an established winger Stenberg could then replace. It’s all theoretical and would totally depend on what players opposing GMs want from us and are willing to trade to us.dhsux wrote: ↑04 Jun 2025 10:53 amYes I agree if the Blues have "too many" wingers of languishing value in Springfield they not just can but need to move them.STL fan in MN wrote: ↑04 Jun 2025 07:27 amSchenn has a 15 team NTC that starts July 1 and Buchy has a full NTC. The problem with trading prospects is sometimes you’ll end up trading away a Tage Thompson. I don’t regret the ROR trade (it brought us a Cup!) but TT would sure look good here now.

RE: Zach Dean
It would be nice if we could pencil in Zach Dean. Unfortunately he hasnt done much in the the AHL. This is a big year for him.
Dvorsky on the other hand has done good things in the AHL and has earned a call up.

I hear you and get your point. Just a hypothetical question. Neighbours makes almost 4 mil. I dont think he will break the bank, but after next season neighbours contract talks will be a hot topic here.dhsux wrote: ↑04 Jun 2025 10:53 amYes I agree if the Blues have "too many" wingers of languishing value in Springfield they not just can but need to move them.STL fan in MN wrote: ↑04 Jun 2025 07:27 amSchenn has a 15 team NTC that starts July 1 and Buchy has a full NTC. Top 9
Buch thomas snuggy
Holloway schenn kyrou
Neighbours ? Bolduc
You have space for 1 player as of today just for the top 9. Im sure this time next year we wont be wondering when dvorsky will be a starter(whether LW or center it doesnt matter) and that 1 top 9 spot is gone. Weve already been told dvo wont get a call up unless fir a skill position. Who is on the 4th line, neighbours?
Re: Bolduc v neighbours
Dean as a player is often injured and has not made that impact yet. I get there has been a lot of hopeful press on Dean (https://bluenotesrising.substack.com/p/ ... till-looms). Overall his profile doesn't look like one who will play those 4C minutes with consistency.Harry York 37 wrote: ↑03 Jun 2025 19:28 pm I think, both optimistically and realistically, we will see Zack Dean as a 3 (or 4) C before DD. With a much bigger need at 2 and 3 C and DD might be pushed to fill that role. My feeling is DD is probably going to quickly bee better than Schenn on the daily and will grow from the NHL level mentoring.
Re: Bolduc v neighbours
On the main topic of Bolduc v Neighbours I feel like they need to hold on a trade unless there is a can't pass up offer. In my mind last year Neighbours slipped a bit and Bolduc looked better but didn't take as much advantage of it as I hoped. I wouldn't trade either. If I had a can't miss offer I think you take it and regret a bit the quality player Bolduc Bolduc or Neighbours becomes. It is a Tage Thompson scenario. You just make that trade and hope everyone wins big with.

Re: Bolduc v neighbours
True, but it would surprise me if his call-up was at Center. DD is a solid threat offensively but is not known for his checking prowess. At least not up to this point. Zack Dean is a tenacious and smart and responsible Center in all three zones, with excellent ioffensive potential.
I think they will shield DD from the pressures of playing Center at the NHL pace for a while. I don't think Dean will need as much time to be ready for 3C or 4C duty.
A recent article that says it all better than I can.https://bluenotesrising.substack.com/p/ ... till-looms
