If ever there was proof that WAR is an utterly meaningless fantasy game invention.......
How is this proof?

Arenado has a .674 OPS with great defense. Bad bat, good glove.

Contreras hasn’t been much better at .699 OPS with solid defense at one of the least important defensive positions on the spectrum.

What would you expect their value to be?

They have a combined 12 HRs between the two of them. 18 teams in MLB have at least one player with that many, many of those 18 teams have multiple players with at least that many.

Jordan Walker was not there! Also getting outscored 19-4 but yet winning one of the three games is frustrating to Texas.

Listen to you all. You’re all giddy in a faux pennant race. All completely missing the over arching mission- reset.

This is a by product of competition and performance. And it’s been high. Just what a reset wants to accomplish.

Now we know who can play and who can’t. The next part of the assessment is strength and season endurance.

That’s where we are currently at. The wear down phase.

Aaaah. Missing Walker. Might that be a thing.

Hopefully the Texas series was an outlier?
They were due for a clunker!
Getting bombed a game or two doesn’t bother me as much as losing winnable one run games.
At least they dug themselves nicely out of a sub .500 hole.
Being seven games over is better than I expected!

Crazy how these threads come out after a couple loses. I guess there's more teams spiraling downward than just the Cardinals.

Dodgers 5-5 in past 10.
Yankees, got beat 18-2 to that 5-5 Dodgers team.

On the flip side, it looks like there's a new Cinderella in town as the Nats are proving to be the real deal with a 6-4 over their past 10.

No……cards will be fine…

In 2022 the Astros won 106 games

They were swept by Oakland who went on to lose 102

the only think more meaningless that one series is one game…

The bullpen is starting to leak a bit and the hitting is cooling off as well. Are we about to see what this team was suppose to look like after all? Let’s hope not.
Not me. I’m nobody’s fool.

It seems to me the Cardinals have scored more runs than the individual player stats would suggest. You look at them and then see they're something like 7th in runs scored, it doesn't quite compute. That is the red flag when projecting the rest of the season.

I think it’s that they have a pretty deep lineup and at certain points virtually every player has contributed and been a key player.

Their OBP is also good which has helped with the runs scored. They are 7th in OBP and 8th in runs/game.

Yes, even Pages has 20 RBIs, and that's with 29 hits. No one can expect ratios like that to continue. On the flip side, Contreras can't finish with a sub .700 OPS, Walker might be turning a corner, hopefully arenado can get to league average which means he would be a much better hitter the last 2/3 of the season than he was the first 1/3. IDK, overall, this offense doesn't quite seem like the 8th best in baseball over 162 to me. We'll see.

Main point is that it’s tough for an offense to go completely silent for a stretch of time if you have a deeper lineup where even a 7th or 8th hitter could do well for stretches. So over the long haul maybe the lineup doesn’t “look” great but it does well because of that.

Like Nootbaar who was very nice in April and wasn’t so great in May. Overall not great/not terrible, but when he was helping the team he was really helping the team.

Donovan has only 14 RBI in his last 45 games, but had 10 RBI in his first like 9 games. And his slash line is really nice.

Contreras/Winn both started slow and heated up. Overall lines not great, but Contreras has an .844 OPS over his last 37 games and Winn has an .856 OPS over his last 43 games.

Herrera was hot, still had a solid May, but has cooled a bit in the last 10 games. But he’ll heat up again soon as well. And even still his OPS looks great.

I don’t know, starting to look a bit like April. The offense having to put up football scores to stay afloat after the pitching keeps coughing up leads.

Are you definitive on which of the following can play?

VS2

Bumbles

UniKKKorn

Herrera
