Is the glass slipper about to fall off of Cinderella?

Post by gashouse59 »

Cards get out scored 19-4 in a 3 game series against a Texas team that’s been having trouble scoring all year long but not against the Cards. The bullpen is starting to leak a bit and the hitting is cooling off as well. Are we about to see what this team was suppose to look like after all? Let’s hope not.

It was our first road series loss in over a month. We weren’t going to take every series.

But this is definitely an important home stand. It’s the longest of the season (tied) and the beginning of a grueling month where we’ll play 28 games in 29 days. It’s not the most impossible month though. They just need to keep playing good clean baseball.

Are Phillies losing the other glass slipper also ?
In their past 3 games, they lost all 3 games and were outscored 28 to 11 to a team that was one game over .500 29-28 at the start of the series.

Baseball is full of ups and downs in a season. Never put too much stock in winning the last series or losing one .

The season is a marathon, not a sprint.

Two poor games in Arlington, one against a two time CY Young award winner, isn't reason to ask if we're about to "...see what this team was suppose to look like after all"?

Big home stand where the Cardinals have been one of the best home teams in MLB.

Some cold bats (Noot, NADO, WillyC, Ivan and VSII) are due to heat up, just keep playing solid fundamental baseball and the wins will keep coming.

You know there's going to be a slip or two for most all teams.

Question is can they recover and move forward or keep slipping?

For me, this season so far is still on house money.

One of the statistics I pay attention to is "reverting to the mean". What this means is that if a player is having a career year today, he probably won't sustain it for the season. He might, but probably won't.

Nado and WC need to pick it up. 0.8 and 0.3 war is terrible ~1/3 games.

Arenado has been seriously slipping for years now. He won't be "picking it up" at this point.

Correct! Hoping that Donovan and Herrera would continue batting averages of .333 or better is foolish. Players no longer average that fir entire season.

I'm also afraid that some Cards pitchers (Mikolas, Matz, Lib, Leahy) will revert to the mean. I try to look at it like a Vegas sports book does, not like a rabid fan does. The Vegas sports book gets it right more times than not.

I don't think either one of them will.

Agree. No room for slipping. We can’t afford to let the defense falter. And need to get the bats going again. I’d like to see Walker get back into the mix of things. Herrera find his power. Somebody besides Donovan carry them on his back for a change.

I believe the main blessing to this point has been health.

A third of the season and no major injuries..thank goodness.

Starting pitching has been a major surprise thus far. I can't help but wonder however how Liberatore's innings may be handled later in August and beyond.

As a few others have mentioned Donovan and Herrera aren't going to hit for average all season as they are now.

The veterans Arenado and Contreras have to pick it up and frankly the team needs a more consistent Nootbar for OF production as predictably Scott has and will fall off from time to time in a long rookie season. I believe Winn may very well be our most consistent bat the last half of the season.

Have no idea what we'll get from Walker or Gorman and in the latter case especially if Arenado is dealt at the trade deadline.

As for the bullpen I fear Leahy is being overused and I don't know who the bridge to Maton/Helsley would be.

It’s a good question. He is a year removed from throwing 125 IP and threw 149 IP the year before that, so it may not be as big of a deal as you might think. But, it’s something to watch.

If ever there was proof that WAR is an utterly meaningless fantasy game invention.......
