Gotcha. I agree.
Now, at this point I'm not saying sell. You just can't do it if you're in the hunt come the trade deadline. I hear you, but it's too late for that now. Should have done it two years ago or last year. The best they can do is have Mo do a trade from the MLB roster like he did last year for Fedde. I don't know what that looks like, and you run the risk of upsetting team chemistry, but Mo has been able to pull those off. I will say, though, even though I liked the Fedde/Edman trade at the time, we did lose a lot of games right after, so maybe that upset chemistry more than we might have wanted to admit at the time. But who really knows at the end of the day?

Realistically. Just in case the Cardinals become buyers instead of sellers. Or should Mo just stand pat? Mo does have a surplus of catchers in the organization that could be good trade chips. And what about trying to deal Gorman?
Then take some of the prospects we have in our system and some you get in these trades and package them for a legit number 1 or 2 starter in the offseason who has some years of control. Bullpen would need an overhaul. But think about how exciting this team would be with Wetherholt added and a rotation of
Gray
Trade Acquisition
Libby,
McGreevy
Matthews
Pallante (if he isn’t part of the package to get a starter or reliever).
I’m on board. Being buyers in 2025 only delays the deep postseason run.
No it doesn't.
How does it not delay it? It takes away valuable trade chips to use this off season for long term pieces to fill holes.
Flipping Crooks for a pending free agent reliever for example absolutely slows it down. He could be dealt as part of a larger package for a number 2 starter with a few years of control in the off season.
I think any buying or selling at the deadline will be done with Bloom's input and agreement. Any trade that Bloom feels would not be helpful to him would be quite foolish by Mo . Bloom takes over at the end of the season . Why would ownership saddle him with a deal that he would not support ?

Bullpen help. If the Cards are still in the hunt. If the starters are all healthy I could see them trade Fedde. I don’t think Helsley or Arenado gets traded. I think they keep Matz and may look at an extension for him.
On the reset we should be able to craft our sells to benefit us. We have developed a young tight core. Pitchers and position players. Need a big power bat and an Ace.
That’s what we need. Pen help is a constant issue and relievers are fine a dozen. Just depends on which one is hot.
