Kenny Albert’s 12 Seconds Left…Haunting Me…

Post by BobbyBlue »

The Blues pinning the puck in the corner with the Jets…and Kenny Albert saying “12 seconds left”…and me thinking…just pin it there…fall on it…kill the clock…anything but don’t try and move it out from there…and the game is over!!! But we all know what happened next…and as has been posted numerous times…it happened a lot during the year…instead of pinning it there…and killing the clock…the Blues inexplicably try and move it…and as happened many times in the regular season…the clearing attempt failed and the puck winds up in our net with 1.6 seconds left. We saw it time and time again…only this time…I have Kenny Albert’s “12 seconds left” call haunting me…echoing in my mind…until next season. I’m thinking every practice should end with the Blues killing the clock along the boards…over and over again…so the next time I hear Kenny Albert’s game call…it will be…Blues Win!!! To erase that haunting call from my mind!!!

I’ll be honest, I woke up at 3am after that game, couldn’t believe it was real, and it kept me awake the rest of the night. But I really haven’t thought about it since and just write it off as growing pains.

This was a step in the process great days are ahead. I was lucky in that I had a different team in the playoffs beyond that so I shifted my focus. I haven’t spent a lot of time focusing on it.

All I could say is focus on what is being built and the great days ahead for the origanization.

And now we get to see a darn repeat of Edmonton against Florida and I am so tired of Florida. First the Tampa Bay Lightning and now that this Panthers team. I didn’t mind one win for the Tampa Bay and I didn’t mind one win for Florida, but not every season.. unless we killed those 12 seconds and win that blasted game!!!!

My gut wasn't right for about 2 weeks time.

Just hope every 6 on 5 forward the players think about it.

Tons of teams roll out players that make the same mistakes over and over. Jeff Finley and Joel Quennville of the Blues past come to mind. I never witnessed a defensemen five feet from his own blue line push the puck deeper in his own end ( rather than just move it out of the zone ) more times than Finley. Oftentimes getting burned by it.

It crushed me just because it happened. The puck was along the boards for about 3 seconds before it was moved. Hard to analyze what should have been done to keep it there. But even after that, it was deflected into the net by a player who was pretty wide open. It got to him somehow. We could retrace everything that happened from when it was against the boards to the time it was in our net. It still hurts but I'm done with who coulda done what when. Or if we would have had one more goal. But here it is again if ya want another look.
