Sam Horn
Channel surfing and caught the Mizzou Alabama game, in the SEC tournament. Starting pitcher for Mizzou: Sam Horn. Only went 3 innings. Announcers said he was throwing in the mid 90's. So maybe a real QB competition in a few months. Great to see what seems to be a full recovery from the Tommy John procedure.

Re: Sam Horn
He’s had trouble with command at times this season and did today too (5 walks), but the arm talent is still there. He battled today and kept it scoreless for awhile. I’d almost like to see him just quit football and focus on baseball. If he stays healthy, he could be a pro.edwin drood wrote: ↑20 May 2025 11:40 am Channel surfing and caught the Mizzou Alabama game, in the SEC tournament. Starting pitcher for Mizzou: Sam Horn. But who knows about football, people forget how highly regarded he was out of HS. Maybe he still makes it at QB1 at some point and gets drafted?
I’m pulling for the kid regardless. He’s been a loyal Tiger and has really battled through a lot.
Re: Sam Horn
Horn should talk to the man who beat out Tom Brady at Michigan - Drew Henson (actually they were platooned- Lloyd Career could not determine who should start until the 8th game). Henson played for the Dallas Cowboys, Detroit Lions and New York Yankees. For Michigan, his 159.4 passer rating was the fifth best in Michigan history and his 18 touchdown passes were the fourth most in a single-season in school history.
Re: Sam Horn
Horn was the highest rated QB in MU history when he was recruited. Had stellar HS career and Beau was a 3 star who was a terrific change of pace for PSU. Is outstanding runner and decision maker so having two different type QB's is great for tigers. Plus having a even higher regarded QB as a true freshman places MU's QB room in great shape.
Love how Eli is having competitions at all positions and let the best men win. That's how you do it.

Not detract from Sam, but Blaine Gabbert was the #1 pro-style quarterback in the country when he was recruited.hdhntr148 wrote: ↑21 May 2025 10:07 am Horn was the highest rated QB in MU history when he was recruited. If any of our QB’s could turn into a pre-Suh dirty play Gabbert, we’d be in great shape. I still feel Suh permanently got in Gabbert’s head.edwin drood wrote: ↑21 May 2025 10:33 amNot detract from Sam, but Blaine Gabbert was the #1 pro-style quarterback in the country when he was recruited.hdhntr148 wrote: ↑21 May 2025 10:07 am Horn was the highest rated QB in MU history when he was recruited. Re: Sam Horn
I'm no fan of Suh. He did play dirty, especially as a pro, but that play in CoMo, in the monsoon, was a clean tackle. Gabbert just got his leg caught in the wrong place and time.Armchair QB wrote: ↑21 May 2025 13:50 pmIf any of our QB’s could turn into a pre-Suh dirty play Gabbert, we’d be in great shape. Re: Sam Horn
Blaine Gabbert was a very good QB, but his achilles heel from day 1 was that he could be rattled easily and that flaw followed him his whole career. Ring his bell and watch his pocket awareness collapse.Armchair QB wrote: ↑21 May 2025 13:50 pmIf any of our QB’s could turn into a pre-Suh dirty play Gabbert, we’d be in great shape. He was the 10th pick in the draft. It didn't take ten posts before the usual suspects found a way to attack a Mizzou athlete who has nothing to do the subject of the thread.
Re: Sam Horn
The same Gabbert who has played 12 years in the NFL? He may not have been a star, but I think he had the most yards in the NFL (by far)edwin drood wrote: ↑21 May 2025 10:33 amNot detract from Sam, but Blaine Gabbert was the #1 pro-style quarterback in the country when he was recruited.hdhntr148 wrote: ↑21 May 2025 10:07 am Horn was the highest rated QB in MU history when he was recruited. of any MU QB with 9,487 yards.
Chase Daniel 13 yrs., 1,746 yards; Brad Smith 9 yrs., 976 yards; Drew Lock 5 yrs., 6,354 yards - who are the #1-#3 QBs in MU in some folks' eyes. https://www.ranker.com/list/best-missou ... e-football).
Re: Sam Horn
Good conversation and yes I was wrong with what I said but I was merely parroting what a sportswriter had said about Horn at that time. Love how Blaine has made many millions while never being a top QB in NFL but got paid anyway just by hanging around. Then you have the Best career for the amount of money as Chase made but also for the least amount of wear and tear on his body as he didn't have that much PT. He did well when he did play which made him a great backup QB and always being a very supportive team mate made the starters feel comfortable having him there. Apparently one of his best traits was pointing out vulnerable areas to attack and helped with the game plan. Which is why he should be a terrific coach some day.ClassicO wrote: ↑22 May 2025 18:23 pmThe same Gabbert who has played 12 years in the NFL? Yes no debate that Blaine had "happy feet" in the pocket and would flush way too soon and often and wasn't that effective when scrambling. Suh made a lot of QB's in the show nervous as the great Tom Brady spoke often of how actually afraid he was of him when he was across the line.
Re: Sam Horn
Who cares about yards? How did Gabbert actually perform when he played? And how did Daniel perform? Gabbert's career quarterback rating was 71.7, and Daniel's was 85.4. Lock's is 78.8, and his yardage looks as if it is going to surpass that of Gabbert.ClassicO wrote: ↑22 May 2025 18:23 pmThe same Gabbert who has played 12 years in the NFL? Re: Sam Horn
FWIW, Chase Daniel was an undrafted free agent. Drew Lock was taken in the second round. Brad Smith (my favorite) was a four year starter (never missed a start) after being redshirted his freshman year. Smith was drafted in the 4th round.
Blaine Gabbert was taken in the first round (10th pick) and many folks forget he left for the NFL early (after his junior season) and unusual for his time was not redshirted. He has two Super Bowl rings (as a backup). Sadly, my most lasting memory of Gabbert is the late game interception he threw against Iowa in the 2010 Insight Bowl. However, Gabbert did lead the offense to 512 yards (but "only" 24 points), 434 yards passing (41 of 57 completions including a touchdown) but threw 2 interceptions in that game. With Kendial Lawrence, Henry Josey, De'vion Moore and yes, James Franklin rushing - they only amassed 78 yards rushing on 29 attempts for an average of under 2.7 yards per carry. That'll happen with 57 pass plays in a game.
P.S. Steve Pisarkiewicz was also taken in the first round (19th pick). He was cursed by being drafted by the Cardinals and coached by old relic Bud Wilkinson.

Re: Sam Horn
Getting back to Sam Horn.
Y'all remember his HS days back in Georgia he had the great luxury of throwing to Travis Hunter, late of Colorado.
It's too much to expect the next Hunter to be hiding on the Missouri roster, but who do you expect to be the go to WR this season, regardless of who the QB is (and I personally would like Horn to make a showing).

Re: Sam Horn
The only issue was whether it would "detract" from Sam Horn's future success to compare him to Gabbert. At this point, I'd take a Gabbert-type career out of Horn - a 4-star recruit who's coming off Tommy John surgery, was beat out by Cook ,and has 3 completions in his college career.acco40 wrote: ↑27 May 2025 06:56 am FWIW, Chase Daniel was an undrafted free agent.
