Closing before closing time!!!
The wife and I were out and about Thursday night and decided to run across town to a DQ to get ice cream. We arrived at 9:48, which is 12 minutes before closing time. We sat at the speaker waiting to order for a minute or two, and then started asking if anyone was there. After a few minutes, we drove up to the window. Workers inside saw us and hid. The wife knocked on the window, asking if something was wrong inside. This was at around 9:55. My wife continued to knock on the window, and we started hearing the workers who were hiding say, "Tell them we are closed." Finally, a young man came to the window and said that they were closed, followed by they couldn't wait on us since we got there a minute before closing time. A minute? That (upset) me off and I told the young man that I would call management the next day.
That young man had to be laughing at me. I have called five times now, and no one will answer the phone. When I get a chance, I intend to stop by now. It didn't start to be such a big deal, but now, ...

Minimum wage behavior. When you're the assistant manager and closing at 10:00 for $7.75 an hour, why would you care? Get fired and you go across the street and flip burgers tomorrow night for the same pay.
Re: Closing before closing time!!!
Agreed ,
Corporate America and ridiculous tax laws have ruined this country with nonsense and Terrible Pay for workers.
Don't blame workers in such terrible conditions one bit.
Pay a reasonable wage, eliminate corporate nonsense, stop taxing anyone making less than $75,000 and Tax the rich heavily! The divide financially must be rectified for society to advance.

Re: Closing before closing time!!!
If a business says they’re open to a certain time, then yeah, they should stay open until then. Hiding in the back is pathetic.
This isn’t a commentary on capitalism. These kids took the job. Go find something better if you don’t like working in fast food. My first job was at McDonald’s. Arvid Smeal was my manager back then and is still working there today, making 15 an hour now. Let me tell you, that dude can sweep a floor like nobody’s business. “You gotta get your body behind it.” That’s what he would tell me.
But also, I knew I wouldn’t want to end up like him, so I made sure to pursue a better path.

So now you own McDonalds, right edgelord? Hell I bet you and Mike Rowe hang out together, listen to Tool music, watch John Wayne movies and complain about them young kids these days. It’s pretty funny that in such a dead forum all these people feel they need to have multiple accounts. Well probably not funny, but rather sad.

Re: Closing before closing time!!!
I worked for 16 years in dining, for several restaurants, and if the dining room was empty 15-30 minutes before our posted closing time, we closed. Early on I also worked in fast food, and we were bound by corporate...but still encouraged to close if no one was in the dining room or in the drive-thru lane. HOWEVER...and this is a huge difference....we also LOOKED closed. The outside signs were turned off; curtains pulled; door locked.
When I worked within two miles of the St. Louis Arena, we held our breath after Blues home games, hoping and praying nobody would come 5 minutes before closing time and keep us there another two hours. Not only that, but the minimum-wage kids and kitchen guys who took Bi-State buses to work now had to call a pricey cab or wake somebody up at home to drive 20 miles to give them a ride home.
Fast food and DQ, though: You're in and out, especially with a drive-thru, but if they've turned the fryer, grill, and ice cream machines off, they FIRST need to turn off any outdoor lighting and the drive-thru menu to discourage ticking off a valued customer. Seeing how aggravated the OP was, a nice offering of discount coupons for later use would have been appropriate.
Oddly, in the late '70s I was co-managing a Burger Chef on Dunn Road near Halls Ferry in Black Jack, and my area manager (E.W.) was all over me about reducing my store's manhours. Wouldn't you know it...two couples came in together with a birthday cake to celebrate....10 minutes before closing time.
I politely as possible told them we had to close in ten minutes, so they got all huffy and contacted the district manager, whom they knew how to reach because the complaining customer, Baby Huey's doppelganger, used to manage that location (yes, Ron and Grace B. and the Hissey Fits, I still remember), and was still bitter that he had been replaced (by me).
Fortunately, my subsequent firing got me hired by Rossino's, where I made 3x the money and had tons more fun, without corporate management concerns, and never again having to call to the backline, "One hot, golden brown french fry, please" or ask if they wanted their tiny burger "with" or "without".

Finish the story!! Did you call corporate? Or did you go back in person to give them a piece of your mind? I hope they gave you a coupon for free sweet treats in the future. Hell hath no fury like a fossil scorned his soft serve, lol.

We stopped by and complained in person. No, nothing free given but I didn't want that anyway. Instead, I pointed out that we drove a significant distance and arrived with more than enough time to receive service. We received an apology. If it's the latter I guarantee that mgmt is like 'you won't be missed'.
12 minutes before close? That's some ahole entitlement right there. 'Serve me now you or else you insufferable Plebian!'
You're lucky they didn't serve you, you probably would have gotten a 'special'.
