These are just two different scenarios all together. Goldschmidt is thriving in a situation where he has arguably the best player in baseball batting just behind him. He also has numerous other guys that can produce the long ball enough that Goldy can just focus on putting the ball in play. He was always a smart hitter. the power has diminished but his current team does not ask that of him. He was a quiet leader that was not best at being the face of the franchise. Now he gets to just relax and play baseball. St. Louis is also better off in the position merry go round that was able to happen. Good for him and good for St. Louis.
Re: Glad that Bum is gone!
I am 99% sure this team would not be near 30-23 if they had re-signed Goldy. Everyone needed a change.

Good take. I'm glad to see PG regaining some success. He's a class act, but I believe he's past the stage where is can be " The Guy". I believe the pressure he put on himself to be The Guy in St. Louis was part of his problem last year. Too much pressing. He's now in a complimentary role in NY and he's thriving at it. Seeing more pitches to hit, relaxed, zero pressure, and he appears to be having fun. Impossible to say if all that would be happening if he stayed with the Cards. In fact, its really a moot point, as both parties seem to be doing just fine. Also moot to be creating a thread suggesting that either party made a mistake. Cardinal baseball is doing just fine. Enjoy it.StlMike1969 wrote: ↑26 May 2025 04:52 am These are just two different scenarios all together. Re: Glad that Bum is gone!
Someone should do a psychological study on Goldy. If not physically degraded the last couple years then what exactly was his issue? No apparent injury. So the guy is hot as the sun for 5 months in ‘22 until Sept/Oct roll around…..couldn’t hit a beach ball in playoffs. ‘23 very up and down and terrible in ‘24 to the point where most thought he was done. And now he’s an MVP again??
Did he tank here to get out?
Does the fella need a shrink?
I’ve never seen a HOF/MVP type have this type of extreme roller coaster season to season and such terrible all or nothing stints in seasons

Re: Glad that Bum is gone!
I don’t think Goldy or NA have the mental makeup to be “The Guy”. They want “The Guy” money but when pressure time comes and they need to earn their money and put the team on their back and WIN…..they wilt. It just shines a giant spot light on how Special Albert Pujols wasBomber1 wrote: ↑26 May 2025 08:42 am2 quality posts, well done STL and NY.RamFan08NY wrote: ↑26 May 2025 07:32 amGood take.
