Jack Roslovic

Post by Cardsfan1586 »

While he may not be a top-tier free agent, this player offers solid value as a third-line center, bringing strong playmaking abilities and a pass-first mindset. At just 28 years old and with a modest cap hit, he represents a cost-effective option to fill a crucial role without sacrificing future assets.

Slotting him between wingers like Holloway, Roslovic, or Kyrou could provide a balanced and creative third line. His playmaking could complement their speed and finishing abilities, making the line productive and dynamic.

Importantly, acquiring him wouldn’t require spending significant draft capital or trading away promising young players—particularly someone like Bolduc, who brings a gritty, physical element that the team could benefit from long term.

In the broader picture, this player could serve as a capable bridge option for the next 2–3 years, until top prospect Dalibor Dvorsky is ready to take on a full-time NHL role. This approach preserves flexibility and keeps the team's long-term development path intact.

It may depend on the length of contract.

If Schenn can do a passable job as a 2c for another year between Kyrou and Holloway, a legit 3c like Roslevic would improve the team. Him, Neighbors and Bolduc could be a great 3rd line.

2 years from now after Dvorsky takes the 2c, we trade Schenn and leave Roslovic as 3c. Schenn gets ousted by one of our Excellent wing prospects.

The problem is, Army seems to think that a pretty big IF.
Don't get me wrong, I'm right there with you on upgrading the 3rd line more than outright replacing Schenn, but I think whomever we do end up with needs to be able to at least step in for Schenn if there are issues. I'm not sold Roslovic can do that, but I'm also not sold on too many of the other UFA center options either. I honestly think a short term deal for Brock Nelson might be the route to go. Not exactly the playing style I think we need in between State Farm and Bolduc, but that would be a really annoying line to go up against.

One more thing, the cap room coming available after '26 - '27 should assist in a number of ways and enable Steen to solve any lingering issues.

Well, I can't argue against Nelson over Roslovic and I do prefer a short term solution at this time.

It really worried me when the glut of threads about trade proposals and free agent signings started popping up immediately after game 7 with the Jets. I think we can bide our time for another season without creating a losing culture and go all-in when the flood of cap money and hopefully a better crop of FA's becomes available.

Who will be available next year? The cap will have gone up over 14 million by the time the next set of UFA's get signed. Anybody that a team wants to keep, will be kept. I'm not telling you you're wrong, I disagree but I'm not here telling you to shut up. My biggest fear of not addressing 2C or getting a guy who's more a 3C but can be a 2 in a pinch is having a repeat of last year. IMHO we should be looking for a solid 2 who could play 1 in a pinch. Losing Thomas last year really showed how thin we are at C. Losing Thomas killed us last year. Moving Schenn down to 3C is the best place for him to be effective for a whole season. If Dvorsky develops into a 1C, great! He can be brought along slowly because it looks like he could spend some time developing.

Give me an idea of who you think is worth waiting for, I'm here for it.

The problem I see is that anyone that would likely "fix" the 2C position will want to much term. If the team truly believes devo is the guy but needs another year then Schenn will likely be fine for another year.. To me 3C may need a upgrade of Sunny and that why I think Granlund on a 2 or 3 year deal would be ideal.

Here's a blog that address your concerns albeit with another team whose situation parallels ours. I say that our humongous cap room to be available in 2026 enables us to overpay for a stud if need be.

We could also afford to take on a chitty contract from a team if they will trade someone we really want so it's not totally dependent on a UFA(s) signing. Another team out there could be looking to restructure their top 6 and the player they want to just could be who we'd want. Lots of could's and maybes that need to be researched.

Lastly other teams may want one or more of several youngsters we have that should be ready for the NHL. They could be used in a trade to get a a high major player or two.

I get your concern that it could be now or never. So I'll pass the puck back to you. Who can we afford to add for this upcoming season with our present cap situation?

There is a player that might be available via trade that has not lived up to his contract and has played center in the past.
His current team already has their top 3 centers so he has been pushed to wing.
He probably won't be popular with their new coach.
He seems to have a bad reputation and is considered a hotdog.

He has had injury issues the last 2 years, but is only 24
He will be entering the last year of his contract so he should be motivated.

What would it cost to acquire him this summer?
If he is a complete bust the gamble will cost you one year at 5.75 plus the asset(s) you traded to acquire him.
If he has only a decent year, do you give him a qualifying offer next summer or let him go unrestricted because the cap hit won't be worth the production?

To me the minimum QO to restrict him next summer is probably the reason he hasn't been traded yet.
That also restricts his current team from asking for too much back in return.

His name is Trevor Zegras.
Is he worth the gamble? I lean no, but what would the Ducks want in return for us to throw the dice?

The problem with all these meh ufa centers is that someone is going to offer them term meaning a three year contract. People alrzedy are squawking buyer's remorse on texier and joseph. A healthy Sundqvuist is a better center imo than roslovic who has shown nothing in these playoffs. Do you really want him on the payroll taking up space and cap three years from now? Granlund is the only one I would spend the money on. He can slide into any forward role including center, kill penalties , take faceoffs. Ideally i would like to see armey make a trade for a young guy like Pinto. Too bad we dodnt strike when he was holding out and then got suspended.

I wouldn't mind Pinto but would he be better 2C then Schenn right now? I would say no.

 yes. At half the price. Especially if you can get a desperate Toronto to take on schenn and hus hit for the next couple of years. The more salient question is how schenn and his 6.5 aav is going to age iver the next tvree years.
