Kyrou for Marner?
Seems to be rumors that Blues are interested in Marner, and would trade Kyrou.
Thoughts?
I'd say NO. Marner is a more expensive Kyrou. Disappears in the playoffs.

I’m pretty sure Marner is a UFA, no?

I saw the same thing…no clue who those dudes are but they were discussing a sign and trade so Mitch could get the 8 year deal. Kyrou going the other way

And if Army wants to deal and pay Marner the money I’m good with it. We lost in the first round without Marner…bottom line , he makes the Blues a better team. Playoffs still aren’t a lock for next year…Marner helps in that regard as well.

Berube does not want Kyrou and Kyrou does not want BerubePierre McGuire wrote: ↑22 May 2025 21:00 pm And if Army wants to deal and pay Marner the money I’m good with it. Need 3rd and 4th teams involved, one to take Kyrou and one to tale Marner.Aesa wrote: ↑22 May 2025 21:08 pmI would say that is pretty much a given.noted wrote: ↑22 May 2025 21:06 pmBerube does not want Kyrou and Kyrou does not want BerubePierre McGuire wrote: ↑22 May 2025 21:00 pm And if Army wants to deal and pay Marner the money I’m good with it. Re: Kyrou for Marner?
So the Blues will trade their highest scorer for the right to overpay Marner for 8 years instead of 7. lol alright.Pierre McGuire wrote: ↑22 May 2025 20:51 pm I saw the same thing…no clue who those dudes are but they were discussing a sign and trade so Mitch could get the 8 year deal. Sounds like delusional Leafs fans that hasn’t accepted yet that they’re going to lose Marner for nothing.

The one thing about signing Marner - it would solidify our chances of making the playoffs agan next year and guarantee that the teams behind us and nipping at our heels like a utah, anaheim, vancouver, calgary or even nashville won't get him. Said another way, say if anaheim for e.g. with its young talent (and now Q) were to sign Marner would they take that wildcard spot over us? There is a bit of a defensive aspect in thinking about signing him.

Re: Kyrou for Marner?
only way this would happen is if it was a 1 for 1 and Marner was interested in the Blues. Because it would have to be a sign and trade situation and happen before Kyrous clause kicks in. Marner would probably be interested in a Blues market as a guy like steener would be able to sell the merits of getting out of Toronto and becoming a career/fan favorite in a traditional hockey market with less expectations.
That being said, the Blues have never almost doubled their best players salaries. And the Blues best players salaries are CP55 6.5m Thomas 8.2 Binner 6 Kyrou 8.2 (trade bait) Buchy 8 Broberg 4.5 Holloway 2.5 etc etc. If Marner came in he's coming in around 13m easy. They going to let him dictate the locker room because that is what happens when you get paid like that.

This is a Toronto fan pipe dream hoping that they can still get something decent for Marner.

Interesting take. I heard in the same conversation that Chicago is looking for a play partner for Bedard.IsDurbanodoingtime wrote: ↑22 May 2025 21:31 pm The one thing about signing Marner - it would solidify our chances of making the playoffs agan next year and guarantee that the teams behind us and nipping at our heels like a utah, anaheim, vancouver, calgary or even nashville won't get him. Re: Kyrou for Marner?
Therein is the rub. Could be a Coach killer. IMHO he's too close to what Thomas is to make this work. Besides, if I were the Toronto GM I don't deal with the Blues unless Thomas comes back.callitwhatyouwant wrote: ↑22 May 2025 21:38 pm only way this would happen is if it was a 1 for 1 and Marner was interested in the Blues.
