Is this just common knowledge and I missed it all these years? Not super-relevant I guess but still pretty mind-blowing as an 80s/90s child.

Yes, forever. She was born Shirley McLean Beaty in Virginia in 1934. Named for Shirley Temple. Younger brother Henry Warren Beaty was born 1937, also in Virginia. Shirley changed McLean to MacLaine and dropped the Beaty. Warren dropped Henry and changed Beaty to Beatty. Both terrific actors. My personal favorite roles: Shirley in Being There, Warren in Heaven Can Wait.

There are all sorts of surprising family connections amid showbiz folks. Some are well-known; some will surprise; some will be recognized only by (ahem) people of a certain age. 8)

Mary Martin, who was NBC'S "Peter Pan" on live TV in the 1950s, was Larry Hagman's mother.

Actress Riley Keough is the daughter of Lisa Marie Presley, and granddaughter of The King.

Smokin' chanteuse Julie London was married to Jack Webb.

Mickey Rooney was married to Ava Gardner. Yes, I know..... 8O

"Mod Squad" hottie Peggy Lipton was married to music producer Quincy Jones and is the mother of actress Rashida Jones.

Marjorie Lord was Danny Thomas's TV wife...and the mother of stunning Anne Archer, who was Michael Douglas's movie wife fending off Glenn Close in "Fatal Attraction".

Fans of film noir knew Dana Andrews, who was more famous than his studly brother Steve Forrest.

Mariska Hargitay of "Law and Order: SVU" is the daughter of doomed movie glamour girl Jayne Mansfield and "Mr. Universe" bodybuilder Mickey Hargitay. No, Jayne was not decapitated. That was her wig on the car's hood, according to the funeral director who handled their bodies after the accident. Mariska and her brother were in the back seat.

Peter Graves (Aurness) became more famous than his "Gunsmoke" star brother James Arness.

Albert Brooks is a wonderful comic actor who was born Albert Einstein. Let the schoolyard beatings commence. His brother Dave Einstein was HBO's klutzy daredevil Super Dave Osborne.

Kate Hudson is Goldie Hawn's (and Oliver Hudson's) daughter, but singer Katy Perry was also born Kate Hudson.

Mia Farrow was married to Frank Sinatra. Her son, journalist Ronan Farrow, is the son of Mia and Woody Allen.

Michael Keaton is no relation to Michael Douglas, though they share the same birth name.

Famed (and feared) movie director William Friedkin was married to famed (and feared) studio head Sherry Lansing.

Stewart Granger was born James Stewart, but the other James Stewart was a SAG member first and could keep the name.

Patricia Wettig, who portrayed Timothy Busfield's wife in "thirtysomething", and is the patient in the chair for today's Physicians Mutual dental insurance commercials, is actually married to Ken Olin, Busfield's TV best friend.

Diane Ladd's daughter (by Bruce Dern) is Laura Dern.

Alicia Williams (the white girlfriend to Daniel Kaluuya in "Get Out") is the daughter of longtime TV news anchor Brian Williams.

Pete LaCock, the Chicago Cubs/K. C. Royals first baseman whose grand slam ended Bob Gibson's MLB career, is the son of longtime "Hollywood Squares" Peter Marshall (born Pierre LaCock)

Corrections: Peter Marshall's birth name was Ralph Pierre LaCock; and news anchor Brian Williams' actress daughter is Alison, not Alicia, Williams.
