Is it because Fedde is a pending free agent?

Post by ScotchMIrish »

Last 5 starts pitch count

103
101
109 - with a 9 run lead
93
63

Liberatore

Only threw 100 one time this season.

Something wasn't right last night with Fedde. Is that 109 pitch complete game with a 9 run lead catching up with him or was it just a one time deal?

Is it because they view him as essentially a rental and are working him like a rented mule?

A) The Tigers are a good team.A really good team. They are 4th in MLB in Runs per game.
B) What was out of the ordinary with Fedde other than the fact that Marmol pulled him a little early?
C) He’s gone over the “100 pitch threshold” 3 times in 10 starts, that’s not exactly anywhere close to “working him like a rented mule” territory.

His leg kick doesn’t remind me of any mule I have seen..including rented ones.

Veteran hurlers like Fedde, Gray and Mikolas can easily go 100+ pitches.

I don't see the pending FA, let's abuse him by throwing him too many pitches argument being vaild.

But he’s 6’4” and 205 pounds, he obviously can’t handle that kind of abuse!

Unreal how things have changed when 100 pitches is seen by some as too many for a starter.

Here you go:

Nolan Ryan in a 13-inning game against the Boston Red Sox on June 14, 1974 threw................235 pitches!

And you can bet 200 were in the upper 90's

KO's 19....walked 10

Zero complete games in his career until the 10-0 game. Gray has age and experience. No starts beyond 7 innings and only one 100 pitch game.

Time left under team control is the determining factor.

He's 49th in pitches thrown in 2025 and 30th in batters faced. This hardly seems egregious.

Gray was hurt and has a history of missed time. He's thrown TWO LESS PITCHES than Fedde on the season and faced 9 less batters.

That's true but for every Nolan Ryan there are dozens who blew out their arms and never pitched again back then when there was no surgery due to high pitch counts. Sandy Alcantara led the league in complete games in 2022 and 2023. Arm injury.

Why leave him in to throw 110 pitches with a 10-0 lead?

It was 109 pitches, and that’s not a lot.

It’s barely over 100 pitches.

You’re acting like he threw 130 or something…

To save the bullpen and let the guy get his shutout

To save the bullpen? They think more of long relief than a rental starter?

5th highest in MLB this year. No other Cards pitcher has thrown that many. In fact no other Cards pitcher has gone over 100 more than once.

He's a rental and they are using him as such.
