Cards C Rodriguez ranks No.1 in latest BA Hot Sheet list

Post by ramfandan »

Baseball America's Hot Sheet ranks the 20 hottest prospects from the previous week . It's a ranking of the top prospects and how they have done in the past week . Note: It is NOT a re-ranking of the BA Top 100 list

So why he got the No. 1 nod for the week thru May 19th ..

Age 18 Batting stats : 7 for 16 .438 .438/.500/ 1.188 6 R 4 HR 8 RBI 3BB 4 SO

The Scoop: In 41 games last year in Dominican League, he hit 10 HR. In 10 games this year so far in Florida Complex Leauge he already has 6 HRs
Half of his 12 hits have landed over the fence. His 6 HR's are more than double the next player in the FCL. and just 4 shy of the total that lead the league last year. If he keeps going like this , he may not be around long enough to break last year's record.

Rake'n Rodriguez...if he has this offensive abilities throughout the ranks he's not long for the catcher position.

If a kid has both offensive abilities AND defensive ones too. then you have a Johnny Bench coming up . Unfortunately, Rodriguez has the former but not the latter. He has a below average arm throwing behind the plate and he is a well below average runner . In other words SLOW ranks 30 on scale of 20-80 scouts use.
Due to his below arm and slow feet , he is projected as a 1st baseman long term by several scouts. He sure does have a plus power tool though.

5'10" 1B...I think he's going to struggle to get a foot into that position.

He's 2B or corner OF.

Good point on his size for 1st base . Do you feel with his slow speed he could handle running around the OF ? boy a 30 rating is baaad for run scale.

Herrera (not going anywhere)
Pages
Pozo
Crooks
Bernal
Rodriguez

We're going to have to trade a C soon, as well as change the position of 1-2 of them. Great problem to have, so much potential

I would be likely to trade Crooks
