Quinn Mathews Rehab

Post by TraveledLessRoad »

Sorry if this was posted already. Looks like his first rehab start went well. Still very worried that this ultimately ends in Tommy John, but maybe i'm just gun-shy- https://sports.yahoo.com/article/cardin ... I4LMkXsQMB

Thanks for the link. As I understand it, the problem is in the shoulder so Tommy John not in play. That said, some of the shoulder issues are more problematic than elbows. Hope this was just a minor setback.

Good news is it's a new group of minor league folks evaluating these things, so maybe it's different than in the past when a guy gets hurt, they prescribe rest, he rests for however long, he's still hurt, then eventually has surgery several months later. But we all still have PTSD from all that, so it's understandable.

Let's hope was just soreness, but, yea, shoulder problems and top pitching prospect is a scary combination.

I’m quite positive that I read somewhere that the Cards’ new development guy picked up on his release point being different this year from last which contributed to all of the loss of command, velocity, and irritation.

Goal was to let that shoulder fatigue settle down and then back to a healthier arm angle coming back.

Wacha's an example of a guy who had chronic shoulder issues which caused many of us to give up on him, only to find success later on... problem is the success only came well after his first 6 years of team control.

I hope you're right on that.

Don't get me wrong, I want them to do their due diligence on injuries. But yeah, we all probably DO have some PTSD from "Oh, he just has a sore elbow." "Oh, he just slept funny on his shoulder" turning into "Yeah...you know what pulled pork looks like? Well...that's his rotator cuff now."/"Turns out he doesn't have an elbow anymore."
