Have been lukewarm on Oli . He came in as youngest manager in baseball. . The inexperience showed early on with bullpen managing especially.
Since I watch every single game on TV (live out of state ) with exception of the Apple games, I have seen growth .
For example, in his first couple years he was not aggressive offensively . Played it station to station . Now this year especiallly , he has become more aggressive starting the runners, etc. Whether Jon Jay and the coaches pushed for that , I don't know but he sure has played a more aggressive style of ball. Overall , his handling of bullpen is pretty darn good. All managers bring a guy in and then bingo HR and they get 2nd guessed up the kazoo but Oli seems to have reduced those times. We are nearing 1/3 mark of the year and he sure has the guys playing well . The clubhouse is loose by all accounts.
Oh I also like that this year when they have won , he is sticking to the lineup better .. The Noot, Winn, Donovan, trio has been consistent. Before he was changing guys all around game to game . No continuity. Now with Nado 6th , the 1 thru 5 in lineup is pretty strong .
I think Oli has shown a lot of growth in last two years. You hope experience improves you and I feel it has with Oli. SO far so good !

MO, has stuck to the structure, like a player who has half of their game sufferingFuturegm2 wrote: ↑20 May 2025 11:19 amAgree neither, Oli has done better than anticipated. 2025 is proving that sometimes doing nothing is better than doing something. There have been times that we would have been better off if Mo had an offseason like this past one than what he actually did.desertrat23 wrote: ↑20 May 2025 11:08 am Neither. Oli is doing his job. Mo didn't do his job over the winter and is getting lucky.
still has their D. He allowed attrition to happen and may have allowed a little more.
MO's bigger fails were when he chased something. He gave away the wrong pitchers,
bet on the wrong horses.
Oli was an OJT. Takes a while and he still needs more feel, IMO.
Players can make you either dumb or genius.

Right. Isn't it sad that the team is more successful when the GM either, A: does nothing, or B: tries to do something and fails?Futuregm2 wrote: ↑20 May 2025 11:19 amAgree neither, Oli has done better than anticipated. 2025 is proving that sometimes doing nothing is better than doing something. They're winning in spite of him.

Well it means that the organization put the right talent in place to begin with. They have to be doing something right to have a winning team.desertrat23 wrote: ↑20 May 2025 12:41 pmRight. Neither is owed an apology. We obviously don't know what the front office discussions are like, or who has voice and how much when making decisions. Having said that, the favorable changes in operation have coincided with Bloom's arrival. Mo (and DeWitt) have been stubborn about their model to a fault. A re-set- that's new. Opportunities for Liberatore and Scott with Matz and his contract to the bullpen- that's new. Not sending Walker and Gorman to Memphis in May when struggling- that's new. Minimal positional and lineup tinkering- that's new. Starters going longer- that's new. Hiring front office staff from outside of the organization- that's new. These things have made a huge difference. Mo doesn't have that much change in him. He will back out of the re-set and will do a most boring and incomplete deadline. He will neither buy, nor sell. That's his way.

According to ESPN the Cards playoff hopes are not reality. Here is the read/ https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/452 ... -athletics

I already thanked the team enough by paying for streaming subscriptions, ballpark tickets, and a little merchandise now and then, even when they sucked.
The least they could do is try their best to win as much as they can to thank me back.

Neither. We're fansgpeeps22 wrote: ↑20 May 2025 09:55 am Mo has put together a roster that's capable of winning and some of the previously criticized trades (i.e. Libby) have panned out. On the other hand, Oli has inspired this team by instituting a belief they can win every game and an underdog mentality.
What do you think?

I don't think anyone is owed an apology. If anything I think you could make the argument that they should have tried to trade Nolan or Goldschmidt or Helsley earlier or tried to get a younger, more cost controlled player for Tommy Edman instead of a player that we're not going to re-sign and are going to have serious conversations about trading even with this team playing well.
Like, this team finally looks young and good. It could look younger and maybe even better if they would have started this process a little earlier.

No apology necessary. I follow and support the Cardinals no matter who the POBO and field manager are.

I don’t owe you nothing, and I don’t want anything from you- jackal.

Really, rat? What about all the people who said they were checking out until Mo and Oli are gone?
