Who Do we Owe a Bigger Apology To: Mo or Oli?
Mo has put together a roster that's capable of winning and some of the previously criticized trades (i.e. Libby) have panned out. On the other hand, Oli has inspired this team by instituting a belief they can win every game and an underdog mentality.

I am still not sold on Oli.gpeeps22 wrote: ↑20 May 2025 09:55 am Mo has put together a roster that's capable of winning and some of the previously criticized trades (i.e. Libby) have panned out. But keeping an open mind. I know MO has come under fire recently and probably deservedly so.
But to me he has done a plus job over his tenure.

I think the bigger thanks should go to gray Contreras and even Arenado for not letting Mo trade them. Gray and Contreras have been a big part of the success and Arenado has been great defensively and while not being good offensively has been much better than Gorman who would have been the every day third baseman if he had been traded. So thanks Mo for not being able to do anything?

The thanks goes to whoever established the reset. It’s done exactly as intended. Forced youth to perform.
Now we know.

When you review the organization top to bottom Mo has been a disaster. Let the farm system deteriorate. Multiple bad trades and transactions. Hired weak managers fired good ones. Leaving the organization worse off than he found it. Of course ownership shares the blame.
I won’t judge Oli until later in the year. But he is not a managing wizard.

I think I disagree with the premise of your question.gpeeps22 wrote: ↑20 May 2025 09:55 am Mo has put together a roster that's capable of winning and some of the previously criticized trades (i.e. Libby) have panned out. I don't owe any apologies. Why? Mo after downturns in 2007 got the Cardinals back in post season. Then in 2016-2018 he returned them to the post season. He drafted most of the players on this team.
Oli managed not to panic in 2023.
If a GM or manager loses control of the team then he should go.

Neither owed anything, especially an apology.
The players along w/some excellent additions to the coaching staff (Brown, Jay and even holdover Blake) get the credit.

No one owes anyone anything baseball-related in May.
If I'm not mistaken, both the 23 and 24 teams were above .500 during May. Providing this team doesn't collapse the 3rd year in a row, you can save your apologies for me.
I'm one of the few who said this team could win 90 games if the young guns hit.

Neither. Oli is doing his job. Mo didn't do his job over the winter and is getting lucky.

Above .500 for the month? Yes slightly (In May, 2023 was 13-12, 2024 was 15-13). But for the year, neither was above .500 at any point in May. This team is 6 games above .500 currently and has the same record as 2022 through 48 games (27-21).blackinkbiz wrote: ↑20 May 2025 10:39 am No one owes anyone anything baseball-related in May.

Kudos to Mozeliak for two personnel decisions: giving VS the opportunity to start CF and inserting Liberatore in the rotation. They both built strong cases during spring. However, in years past, Mozeliak might have opted for the veterans (Siani and Matz).
Re: Who Do we Owe a Bigger Apology To: Mo or Oli?
Agree neither, Oli has done better than anticipated. 2025 is proving that sometimes doing nothing is better than doing something. There have been times that we would have been better off if Mo had an offseason like this past one than what he actually did.desertrat23 wrote: ↑20 May 2025 11:08 am Neither. Oli is doing his job. Shildt wasn’t that good. Most here wanted him gone before the winning streak. Mo hasn’t done a good job of hiring managers, that’s for sure.Jatalk wrote: ↑20 May 2025 11:23 amMatheny.
