UFA Targets #2 Centers
There are a few high profile guys who would fit nicely into the Blues need for #2 center. And with Krug's situation, the Blues may well be able to fit them in.
Granlund
Duchense
Bennett
Tavares
Tavares won't likely come here... Will likely take less to stay in TO. Bennett is going to get bank from someone (rumors are he's headed back to Calgary). But Duchesne and Granlund are the most interesting for me and hope we'd land one of the two.

Re: UFA Targets #2 Centers
Duchene's season (82 pts) probably earned him a better contract than what the Blues would want to spend on a 34 year old center. But, he still looks really good. I don't want him for more than 2 years though, and he'll probably get offered at the very least 3 or 4 years ... won't be surprised if he gets 5 years.

Re: UFA Targets #2 Centers
If the Blues want to be contenders they legit need two centers this summer, similar to 2019. One will need to come via trade I believe.
Re: UFA Targets #2 Centers
I think I'd also look at guys teams might move to fit some of those guys in, Dallas in particular.
Re: UFA Targets #2 Centers
I'd like Granlund here, I think he's a very underrated 2-way player but he's likely going to command more salary / term than we should accommodate.bud white wrote: ↑19 May 2025 13:18 pm There are a few high profile guys who would fit nicely into the Blues need for #2 center. Tavares is a pipe dream. Bennet will get paid and Duschene most likely gets too much term and too much salary from somebody.
I agree with Carl, I think we are more looking for a trade. I think we'd be able to find a Ryan Strome / JG Pageau / Pavel Zacha type middle 6 center that can add the depth we need without giving up a ton of assets or term and cap space or prevent a prospect from taking their spot in the long term.

Re: UFA Targets #2 Centers
Granlund’s much stronger on LW than C these days. He played C to start the season in SJ but not sure I see him as a great option at C going forward.
Re: UFA Targets #2 Centers
Its a good problem to have but already having our guy coming through the system creates some challenges for sure.
A few more challenges also exist, we has way to much money sitting in the press box with Texier and Joseph and I believe Krugs money can't be used until the season starts.
We may well need to go with Dvorsky at 3c and look to make a move in season if needed.

Re: UFA Targets #2 Centers
From every account I've read, Dvorsky has struggled at the Worlds (I'm sure the Blues have been watching). If that is the case, better to let him develop at his own pace.skilles wrote: ↑19 May 2025 14:24 pm Its a good problem to have but already having our guy coming through the system creates some challenges for sure.

Re: UFA Targets #2 Centers
We have our #2 center. That is, someone that plays very well with the wingers that are on what we are calling our #2 line. We need a #3 to play with Bolduc and Neighbours. I wouldn't be surprised if they brought back ROR. Two years at 4.5 per. 53 points. Good faceoffs. Nashville wanted to move him, but were acting like he had a no trade....asking him where he wanted to go. Sounds like a fit.

I agree .
Especially what's Highlighted in Red.
Schenn as a 2 C, with Kyrou. Holloway they played very well together and they show that they had great chemistry together.
We need a new number 3 center, untill Dvorsky is ready
IMO.

Re: UFA Targets #2 Centers
Schenn based on him looking a bit worn down the stretch is likely better suited for 3rd line duty at 14-15 minutes a game, and to preserve his body likely moving to the wing would benefit him.leedog68 wrote: ↑19 May 2025 15:58 pm We have our #2 center. 2nd line center who can skate and keep up with Holloway and Kyrou(if he stays) would greatly increase our offense.
Re: UFA Targets #2 Centers
We definitely need to add a middle-six center while Dvorsky is developing. Either add a UFA on short term 1-2 years (3 max depending on player) or make a hockey trade to add a center with potential in the 22-26 year range. Scour the RFA centers for trades - Peterka, McLeod, Geekie, McTavish, Voronkov, etc.

Are there any legit 2c's you'd like to see us get that you think we could get without giving up too many assets or term?STL fan in MN wrote: ↑19 May 2025 14:19 pm Granlund’s much stronger on LW than C these days. I don't know what has gone on behind the scenes with the Blues and ROR but I think in theory that is actually a very solid plan....like almost perfect really.leedog68 wrote: ↑19 May 2025 15:58 pm We have our #2 center.
