Since his acquisition until now how would you grade the Arenado acquisition? A thru F or simply Good , Neutral or Bust?
I’m at a D+ and Bust. Expectations were so high and reality is disappointing.
Great thread!
It's a solid B overall 85 out of 100. At the plate he has had 1 monster season. 1 above average season and 2 average years or slightly above. Solid above average defense. A big name and superstar people wanted who shows up and plays everyday. A little ding on value as he is one of the highest paid players in the league but the Cards got Colorado to pick up a good chunk of that.
Maybe I’m splitting hairs, but I see this two ways.
My grade of the trade itself: A
This is purely my grade of what we have up vs. what we got. Didn’t give up anything of significance, and got a big name hitter and defender that the fanbase and ownership were looking for.
My grade of Arenado’s performance to date: B-
I think his first two seasons were very good, with 2022 being the peak of his production. Always expected him to regress as he got into that last few years of his contract, so I’m not holding his 2024-25 production against him as much as others. His lack of production and clutch hitting in the playoffs has been a disappointment though.
