Listening to sportsnet.ca morning talk....rumors that Matthews has a wrist injury and likely will need surgery.

Here's one of those stats that is incredibly hard to believe but it's true:

Mike Bundt

Playoff series wins since the 2004-05 NHL Lockout:

Buffalo: Four
Toronto: Two

The Sabres haven’t made the postseason in 14 years…

Well that would explain his shot being awful for about 3 months or so.

Changes/tweaks? Sure. Wholesale changes to a team that took the defending champs to game 7 is probably a big mistake.
the issue is the way they lost games five and seven (at home). Florida had 21 shot attempts before Toronto got one (in a game seven).
I mean game 7 with the champs..... you make adjustments and try again
Pretty sure this was the last attempt with that core. No way they can sell that to the fanbase again. They’ve tried numerous times and have failed and now they have contract decisions to make. They have to move on from some of the core.
One thing Ive learned over the years is "they" will always have something to say and "they" don't have a clue what it takes to go from top 10% to top 5% and ultimately to the top 1%/the very best.

At the end of the day they needed to win 4 games and they won 3 against the defending champs and I'm not saying don't make adjustments but overreacting is not the solution.

I personally think they have been over rated going in so I definitely think they should be trying to get better but man that path gets extremely narrow when you are that close and you can't force it. The discipline to stay the course can be a super power.

Wolves should not let sheep tell them how to hunt.
I hear you but games 5 & 7 are just beyond ignoring and showed this team is not "that close" IMO.

Shanahan should finally be discharged and Chief might have a lot of influence on the changes they will be making.

I'm with Marchand and Tkachuk on this one alot if the anxiety this leaf team has is press and fan based. It also doesn't help that the press are also fans.. Can't tell you how much I wouldn't want to play or coach for that matter in Toronto or Canada for that matter..

It definitely plays a part. Look at the Cubs. How much pressure did the fans and media put on them for decades?

Same could be said of Matthew Tkachuk for the Panthers, though guessing the injury might still be a factor. Seems clear Marner will be gone (brutal asset management by the Laffs) and Tavares is gone unless he’s willing to sign a cheap deal.

Personally, I love seeing them get eliminated because they have one of the most arrogant and annoying fan bases in all of sports. But I’m even feeling a little sorry for them today. Even Biz, who can be an absolute clown, was humbled by the reality of it all last night. Florida spanked them hard and maybe that helps fans deal with the reality of what is going to happen this summer. Of course if they don’t fire ShanaClown today, that franchise deserves more pain again next season.

Hmmmm, I guess I DID pile on!
One of the fans major complaints is that Marner nixed a trade to Carolina for Rantanen.

Now how much truth there is to that I don't know, but that has been another major issue. They look at what Rantanen has done compared to what Marner did this playoffs, and the odds he'll leave via UFA, and well that has led to a lot more hate. Kind of the level the Isle fans had for Tavares when he essentially did the same thing.

If you give a player the power to say no to a trade, can't be mad at him when he uses it.
If that rumor is really true, it's fascinating to think of what it would have done to the playoff landscape. Two of the final four, and really three of the last five teams standing, would have been directly impacted.

Have to think things would look pretty different today.

Leafs high draft picks (again) failed the last five games when team was up 2-0:

Nylander: 0 points, -3, eighth overall
Matthews: 1 point, -3, first overall
Marner: 1 point, -3, fourth overall
Rielly: 0 points, -3, fifth overall
Tavares: 0 points, -5, first overall (by Islanders)

Again, perhaps those guys rip it up when penalties are in play. Zero on-ice infractions were called in game 7. Zero. They could not adjust.

A bunch of the highest paid players in the league with tons of experience looked significantly worse than a rookie college kid with one game of NHL experience playing against the President's Trophy team. Just saying, they were pigs.

I'm not a Leafs fan so I'm happy to see them collapse under the pressure. Hopefully the Oil will be next.

Dude. No offense, but nobody will agree with you. They got absolutely pummeled on home ice on game 7. That was an absolute embarrassment.

Knives are out for Marner weirdly no real mention of Taveras and his again no show performance in the playoffs. I have always maintained that their stupid signing of him and his 8m contract forever just screwed them. He is a loser and not a leader. Showed it in how he duplicitously left the Islanders. If they had not signed him and used the money elsewhere, I think you would have seen more post season success. Press and fans are really knee jerk said the same things about Steen, Kessel, Kadri -- driving them out of town with all of them getting their cup. Same thing is going to happen to Marner - a hundred point Selke candidate forward. Yes he had a (bleep) series but so did the entire team -- Andre Benoit led them in shots last night.
