Hellebuyck
Not another bash thread and I don't think anyone blames him for his two shutouts of the stars in WPG and going to OT in game six.
That said, he got yanked in all 3 away games in the first series and was taunted like crazy because of it. He never came back to the bench like most respectable goalies (and teammates) when he did get pulled. Darren Pang called him out on it too saying "I would 100% be on the bench there with my teammates." He made silly comments to the media about "nobody studies and reads about goaltending more than me."
In the second round he was much more stable but still could not win on the road. Yes it is a team game but this is now multiple seasons in a row he has choked in the playoffs.
Does he get moved?
Will he not win Vezinas anymore because of his playoff history?
Is he a good teammate?
Does he need to study more?
Is he a headcase / mentally weak?

I don’t really care for the guy, but he was excellent last night in a very high pressure game. Don’t necessarily think Winnipeg should feel confident with him going in to the playoffs, but I’ll give him props for last night.
Re: Hellebuyck
Yeah. It's hard to blame him for the game winner in OT unless he had x-ray eyes to see through his teammate.Frank Underwood wrote: ↑18 May 2025 10:42 am I don’t really care for the guy, but he was excellent last night in a very high pressure game. Re: Hellebuyck
Helle gave them a chance to win. You can’t ask for more than that…Dallas is just a train right now.
Re: Hellebuyck
Heiskanen looked really good last night. Gonna be a great series against the OilPierre McGuire wrote: ↑18 May 2025 11:08 am Helle gave them a chance to win. You can’t ask for more than that…Dallas is just a train right now.
Re: Hellebuyck
Helly was not playing cup winning goalie this playoffs. Hard to argue otherwise. But, especially on the road, his team didn’t give him a ton of help either.

Re: Hellebuyck
I suppose the good news for Dallas is that they are hardly running on all cylinders and still find themselves in the WCF.Pierre McGuire wrote: ↑18 May 2025 11:08 am Helle gave them a chance to win. You can’t ask for more than that…Dallas is just a train right now.
They're going to need a lot more offense and have better team defense to have a chance vs Edmonton.
You need more than one line producing offense.
The Stars 3 gray beards (Duchene, Benn, and Seguin) have been horrible.
Duchene is -9 with no goals.
Wyatt Johnston is somehow -13 even though his team is 8-5.
Robertson has invisibly eased back into the lineup. They won't beat the Oilers unless he produces offense.
It would also help if 20 regular season goal scorers Marchment & Dadonov chip in a few goals.
Not surprisingly Dallas is -4 in goal differential despite being 8-5
Dallas has won solely because of their power play.
They have given up nearly 32 sots against per game. That's not going to work vs Edmonton.
Yes, Heiskanen missed a lot of games, but the Oilers best d-man has missed them all and they have given up only 27 shots per.
DeBoer wisely dressed 7 d-men once Heiskanen returned to help ease him back slowly (14:52 -18:33- 23:40).
The training wheels are off Heiskanen's bike. Expect him to average 26+ minutes a game vs the Oil.
The Stars bottom pair will get limited ice time in this upcoming series.
The Oliers win this series and the Cup.
Back to the OP.
Winnipeg overachieved during the regular season.
They never had a chance to defeat one of the big 3 in the west.
1C is too old to win a Cup.
2C is horrible.
3rd year in a row that Helly has struggled.

Re: Hellebuyck
The Blues last game against Dallas they dominated them but allowed 3-4 PP goals to think. I also watched a Flames vs Stars game in the last couple weeks of the year and Dallas won but allowed 50 shots roughly.
Re: Hellebuyck
Anyone see the meme going around Facebook today? Four Owens. Owen Wilson and a photo of him. Owen Nolan and a photo of him. Own Hart and a photo of him. and finally 0-6 on the road and a photo of Hellebuyck. Classic!

Re: Hellebuyck
Yeah, ok. He is supposed to give them a chance to win for F sakes. Is that the new threshold for a stud goalie? LOL.Pierre McGuire wrote: ↑18 May 2025 11:08 am Helle gave them a chance to win. You can’t ask for more than that…Dallas is just a train right now.
The Jets won Game 7 against us by probably a .05% chance considering the circumstances. The Jets shouldn't have even had another series.
Re: Hellebuyck
Personally, I see no issue piling on. He wasn't the best goaltender in either series.ShakeyWalton wrote: ↑18 May 2025 13:46 pmYeah, ok. He is supposed to give them a chance to win for F sakes. Re: Hellebuyck
He was largely competent against Dallas but still got outplayed by Oettinger. Against the Blues he was a legit disaster and they only won in spite of his play.DawgDad wrote: ↑18 May 2025 15:41 pmPersonally, I see no issue piling on. He had an .866 Sv% in 13 total games (the lowest in the postseason), and he still had 3 sub .900 games in the Dallas series. Oettinger had just 1.
Re: Hellebuyck
Thats pretty good!

You don't have to win all the road games as a presidents trophy team but you then force yourself to win all your home games. And they lost 1. When Dallas grabbed that one early in the series I think most people believed it was over then.
