Does anyone else really like Contreras?

Post by ecleme22 »

Talented. Team player. Leader.

I know it’s easy to praise a guy with like an 1.100 ops the last 20 games, but I really like that he’s a Cardinal.

I love his energy and camaraderie. And, he’s really taken to 1b.

Definitely an asset to the team and the clubhouse.

He’s great. Team leader. Wanted to stay here. Probably my favorite player on the team.

Has fun when he plays the game . On closeups , you can see him yukking it up after plays etc. 1st base is good position for him as he enjoys talking with the visitor players when they get on 1st base. Sure it keeps him loose . Much lighter atmosphere than working behind the plate.
I know his brother had big year last year and has emerged as his older brother is aging a bit but overall I think Willson is probably the more talented hitter of the two. Both are good though.

Hated him with Chicago. Ironically I really like him for the same reasons I hated him. Focused, intense, do all to win player. Glad we have him.

Oh yeah, really like, and just hoping I don't fall in love, lol. His contract length here looks just right.

So letting Goldy was kinda scary for some, but now looking more like a win-win.
Trading Arenado before the deadline might be scary for some, but could that also be another potential win-win scenario?
I think so, and do not think it'd derail all hopes the Cards have for this year. Might do the opposite as far as I know.

All of this.

Also, any hate he got in the past two years here was asinine. He's been, offensively, EXACTLY the player we signed. Defensively, too. It's not like we signed him and he sunk like a rock. Save for his fluke injuries, he's always been this.

Also, he's been better on D at 1B than I though he would be, and I had some fairly high expectations. He's making some plays out there.

I have been impressed with him. I really respect how he has adjusted. He is not a complainer. Reacted in teams best interest when Oli threw him under the bus last year.

Yes. I've been saying it since he was brought in that I hope his attitude rubs off on the team. While I love players like Paul Goldschmidt, it's nice to have a veteran that's a bit animated.

Can't believe how good he's been at first

I don't think this team would miss Arenado much at all. I wouldn't miss him beyond the occasional nostalgia for his spectacular defensive play (which if we're being honest happens about once every few games). I definitely wouldn't miss him popping out with RISP.

I know Noot's friends with him or whatever, but I don't get the sense he's otherwise a significant clubhouse presence. And Donovan/Saggese/Gorman can handle 3B probably more than adequately, again minus those great charging barehanders and the ranging into foul territory for the long, accurate throw.

He has adjusted very well to playing first base. I didn't think he would be as good defensively has he has been. As a hitter, he could provide a little more power, but who do they have that could do better at this time.

On the ‘Fools Gold’ thread, I mentioned a similar thought on Arenado.
