A good idea. Same with Gorman.

Kelenic - Braves comes to mind - similar scenario- huge promise with disappointing results.

I wouldn't touch Kelenic with a 10 ft pole. Guy's had some glaring holes since he was drafted. The Mets were right to get rid of him when they did.

Would agree with you Stummer - not that Walker doesn’t seem to have deficiencies- splitting hairs but wasn’t Kelenic with the Mariners?

Who else comes to mind?

If they were going to flip Walker should be for a vet who can hit and play D. Problem is no one would even trade a good rental for him right now.

At 22yo and barely removed from being THE top prospect, better approach is tell him to keep getting even better on defense, which is an attainable goal, and hope for a Jason Heyward-type year (lower .200’s BA and gold glove level D). Kind of like the Masyn Winn approach when he came up. Not ideal but the kid is a worker and has a good attitude and super athletic.

A lot of love for Burleson, but he was pretty terrible at first too but allowed to work through it with consistent play time. It’s as if they treated him like the top prospect and forced the issue with a ton of “runway”, and he sucked on defense and was older and not rushed. Liberatore took extra time to develop too but patience paying huge dividends with him now.

I say roll with him until midseason, and if he’s still hitting under Mendoza line, then explore a trade for a rental and let JW finish out the year in Memphis

Well...we're both right. I just got the timing mixed up. Kelenic was drafted by the Mets, and then traded to the Mariners in the Robbie Cano deal. I just got the sequence mixed. I was sure he went from the M's to the Mets.

I'm not ready to give up yet.

He's 22. He's no longer a defensive liability. He works hard with a great attitude by all accounts.

He's been awful, no doubt. But he does have 5 RBI in his last 7 games. With his size & speed, IF he ever figures it out I want him to be wearing The Birds on the Bat!

3 managers fired already this season. The most is 5 mangers being fired in 1961. Do we get there?

I could maybe see 2 more mangers being fired this year

Continue to give Walker the 'runway' for 2025 . His defense has already improved leaps and bounds with his intensive work with Jon Jay .

As for his hitting, Brant Brown continues to work with him on that . I have noticed an increasing number of balls put in play (that's at least a start )
Who knows ? Maybe one of these days he will get hold of one for a HR and it happens to be the game-winner !
I know 'dream on, buddy ! '

22. He's 22. That's why he will either be the big tease or become a big star. They are not going to give up on him for 2-3 years.

They should be looking to move Gorman more than Walker. Last year I suggested a Torkelson trade straight up. He is having a turn around season this year so maybe there is still hope for Gorman. However I can still see him as part of a larger deal involving multiple players.
