Goldy - DRS = -2; OAA = 0. (He was 0/0 in those metrics in '24)
Willson - DRS = 1; OAA = +3
So far, Contreras appears to be the better defensive 1b. And I expect WC to improve, and PG not to.
I'm thrilled Goldy is hitting so well, as he was one of my favorites, but the move of WC to 1B rather than signing Goldy was great.
Note on O-production: Goldy - 5HR; 27R; 22RBI; Willy - 6HR; 20R; 25RBI
Goldy vs. Contreraas at 1b

Re: Goldy vs. Contreraas at 1b
And Goldy's offensive numbers have been buoyed by a .400+ BABIP, which is already starting to fall. His EV, ISO and HardHit are all at career lows. His year-end numbers will likely be more in line with 2023-24 numbers (somewhere between if I had to wager on it).

Add in Contreras is a leader and goldy is not and I would definitely prefer contreras over goldy

Re: Goldy vs. Contreraas at 1b
I got nothing bad to say about Goldy. Players should emulate him in every aspect of his life. Hope Goldy does really well in NY.
Still, so happy to have Contreras playing 1B in St Louis.

Re: Goldy vs. Contreraas at 1b
I figured Contreras would give the team a big boost playing full time at 1st ..not taking the beating of catcher position but I never dreamed his defense would be as good as it is.
Oquendo , the fielding guru , sure did a super job with Willycon . Guess what surpised me the most has been his flexibility in getting low throws.
No idea he could strech and do the splits like that so easily . He has taken throws from the infielders better than I ever imagined . Very impressed with him !

I had high hopes for WillyC at 1st base and he hasn't disappointed.

-WillyC earns an NL All-Star appearance at 1st base
Still might happen if they take three (behind Alonso and Freeman)!

Also love seeing Goldy tearing it up in the Big Apple, he's a class act we all wish well except when we face him.

Goldy is also 4 years older, has more than double the WAR and an OPS+ of 155 to 112. Love Willson and his game along with his fire and attitude but right now Goldy would get my fan vote for the All Star game.ClassicO wrote: ↑16 May 2025 11:27 am Goldy - DRS = -2; OAA = 0. Re: Goldy vs. Contreraas at 1b
Remember Luke Voit? Goldie is benefiting by being in NY.
Re: Goldy vs. Contreraas at 1b
Contreras play at first transformed that into a good signing and contract. Really glad he didn't opt out.
Re: Goldy vs. Contreraas at 1b
That backhanded pick of the bad throw by Winn the other day while keeping his foot on the bag was special. And a backhanded stab of a smashed grounder in that Phils series. Impressive how he has taken to 1B.
