The guy has played way too much hockey this season because he chased a win record, the president's trophy and the 4 nation fiasco....he has to be running on fumes.
Binnington played the same rigorous schedule and he was fine.
Balotelli is confused, too worried about the coming draft lol
Wonder how he would explain the last five years of terribleness? Has he been tired for 5 years? Maybe he should just retire?

Don’t forget about the kid in Calgary, Wolf. Up for the Calder. Been named top goalie in the league he’s played in 4 of the past 5 years.
Mentioned before Hellebuyck is a lot like Ryan Miller. Very good to excellent in the regular season but come playoff time or extreme pressure games folds up.
Miller? He was excellent for Sabres in playoffs. What's more, won silver medal in 2010, and named MVP of tournament.

Yeah I just don't think thats an issue
Yeah, between the regular season, postseason (through round 1), and 4 Nations tourney:
All of these guys were workhorses. Sure Hellebuyck could have skipped one extra game a month I guess, but I don’t think that’s his issue.
I think the issue is he has flaws and teams game plan for that more in the post season.
There's some truth to this. They (NHL Teams) have a lot of requests for opposing tender stats right before the playoffs (when they know who they're going against), and they focus on shots and play-setup in practices to take advantage of that. The fact that Helly has let in SO MANY glove side goals is also telling.

Remember Husso vs. The Wild a few years back. Man, they were feasting on his glove and the fact that he just kept dropping it, and couldn't catch. Additionally, he couldn't manage the puck well at all. Dude had awesome legs, though.
(During that season, this forum was calling for a Binnington trade and annointed Husso as the second coming. I was on record then of pointing out some pretty glaring issues. His ascendency to greatness in Detroit was somewhat short circuited by ... not being very good after all.)
In the regular season, you play a game and get on a plane. You won't see that team again for a couple of months. Far easier to get away with.
What Binnington does exceptionally well - and what young goalies should be paying attention to - is the fact that he keeps his glove in very ideal position, and maintains it throughout movements. When you watch the replays, it shows minimal movement of the glove.

You have to think that Hellebuyck's hold on the #1 spot for Team USA in the 2026 Olympics is slipping away. On top of a shaky first round, Oettinger is outplaying him in critical games. Depending on how next season starts, it could be very likely that Otter and Jeremy Swayman end up overtaking Helly for the top spots. We'll see, of course, but the trending of Helly not being able to deliver in pressure games has to be alarming to Bill Guerin and Team USA.

Binny is a gamer of a tender who IMO will always be a better playoff tender than a regular season star. Everything about is game is good to exceptional EXCEPT his ability to stay focused during the regular season grind. Now, when the stakes go up that's a different story.
Regarding Husso, he's the poster child of "wait till next season" to see if he's a legit NHL starter. There's a lot of truth around the ability to grow once the league gets footage of you, and so far he's had some serious growing pains.

Husso had some holes that were just cringeworthy. I wasn't the least bit surprised that he went back to the A before being dealt to Anaheim. I mean, I"ve seen Jr B kids who could manage the puck better. And in today's game, you simply have to be able to manage play. It's become an essential skill. But whatever ... he's closer now to a career journeyman with a ton of money in the bank from the N before he heads back to Finland to play.
For a goalie, the NHL is a game of adjustments. The best adjust.
As for Binner, I have no problem with what you get from him. Billy Smith and Grant Fuhr really didn't care about stats. But they knew that playoff goaltending boiled down to just a handful of situations that turned a game ... and a series. Fuhr could give up six backstopping the high flying "defense optional" Oilers ... But if the game was on the line, he wouldn't give up 7. He just wanted the W. Same with Smith. Those Islanders dynasties were like that because they played on their toes - they knew Smitty had their backs. I see a lot of Billy Smith in Binnington, in fact. Cat just hates to lose and knows how to keep his team in the game until they get it going.

and being so deep in his net all the time, teams are not going to rework the way they play the game for a single regular season game but they are absolutely going to do that for a 7 game playoff series.
