We have to figure out a way to get a guy named Ike Irish on this team.

Seth Hernandez, RHP, Corona HS, California
He'd be difficult to pass on IMO.
Easier to pass on Arnold by a large measure.

Seth Hernandez is my pick/want, too. FOTR starter. It's a risk with RHP HS pitchers, but I think he's a Jackson Jobe type....only 3 full seasons in the minors.

the few RHP HS hurlers taken in the Top 10, that have made the Majors, have taken 3 full seasons to 7 full seasons....examples are Jobe and Greene (Reds)

It's against the normal for the Cardinals, then again they aren't in this spot of taking the top
HS pitcher.
Grab it when you're here?

I like him being 3 seasons out. A more methodical controlled development could possibly help
slow him down a touch.

I know with people a lot more substance to their opinions than I are high on Arnold. I have concerns
that a smaller Sale...unfair to Arnold... is as effective as a 6'-6" Sale at the MLB level. That stride along with increased angle
and height is a benefit.

Jobe is the outlier for the success stories. And their aren't many...so take that with a grain of salt. The risk is real, but with today's R&D in the minors, and with Hernandez being far and away the best pitcher in the draft (including college), I think the risk is real. But I don't draft, and you'll have more Orgs afraid of that risk than not.

I'd say 4-7 years is probably the best you can expect...3 years would be the dream of dreams.

I never mentioned Jobe.

Arnold comes out low, as a batter, I see extra time to pick up a ball.
The comp was to Sale who has a similar delivery and is 6'-6"

That's full of bias, I wish nothing but the best for the kid and he's soon to get a significant opportunity.

And that's probably generous. Remember the change in stats when the players were measured in Spring Training for the automatic ball strike zone? A lot of players lost inches off their listed height. (Pitchers did not have to go through this process.)

Here's the entire list from Fangraphs. Noot went from 6'3" to 6'1". Burly from 6'2" to 6'. Apparently Walker is still 6'6" as it doesn't list the ones who didn't change.

No need to add size to Mr. Walker or Sale.

How legit is Arnold's 6'-1?

Take it easy, i was just pointing out that fact because Duce had mentioned him as a fast-riser by prep standards. Also, comping someone who is 6 ft 1 to someone who is 6 ft 6 isn't actually a comp at all.

Have you watched the 2 players deliveries?

I made the comp because I see a similar delivery with Arnold. You might not.
I see a part, not all, of Sales effectiveness coming from his larger size. You might disagree.

But telling me Jobe is 6'2 when I didn't type his name is a zero add.

Prep Baseball's updated Draft Board for May.... Top 100.

This seems like halfway work....I guess these guys earned their name this time. This top 100 ranking is HS heavy....and quite a few of those HS kids are having bad years. I'm not sure who updated this, but it's....to put it kindly....incomplete.

anyways...everyone has their own opinion, so please, forgive mine. PrepBaseball usually posts good stuff.

Draft Boards are good b/c it gives you a chance to see how 1)others think, 2) find out names/players who the Cards may draft later on day 1/early day 2

Mayo's latest Mock Draft from mlb.com

LHP Kade Anderson, LSU

Anderson has a really good arsenal of pitches. Could be interesting to see how he does with a good pitching mentor in the Cards system.
