The guy who beat us in game one and is currently on a CY Young trajectory.
I looked it up, the Phillies gave up their number 4 prospect (and a ptbnl) who is an 18-year-old shortstop hitting .220 with no power in low A. That seems like the type of prospect we wouldn’t miss too badly, especially given the return.
Luzardo has multiple years of control and about a $6 million salary. Why wouldn’t Moe have tried to make a team improving trade like this except for his misguided version of a rebuild and lack of understanding of the no trade clause?
I hope Bloom can make some of these types of instant improvement trades over the winter because you can never have too much pitching at this level.

Re: The trade for Jesus
A lot of prospect geeks on here clamored for trading for him when he was with the Marlins. Looks like they were right. That guy would probably have a sub 1.50 era pitching at Busch vs. Philly
Re: The trade for Jesus
This is the exact type of deal I was afraid we would be missing out on when we decided to stand pat and just cut payroll. We are missing out on future possibilities to improve the team and have essentially lost any opportunity to make a good deal for the future this offseason. Well we did pick up Helman...Carp4Cy wrote: ↑14 May 2025 21:52 pm The guy who beat us in game one and is currently on a CY Young trajectory.

Re: The trade for Jesus
Didn't he miss the entire 2nd half of last year with a back injury? I mean looking in retrospect great decision for PHI. But what if he was injured again or not the same pitcher? And control ends with him a FA in 2027.
Just saying there was risk on PHI side. As to the prospects dealt I have no idea. Caba seems to be the centerpiece and really hard to judge what he will become. 19 years old and playing SS in A ball. he IS ranked #2 in the Miami prospect list.
Kind of reminds me of the Liberatore deal. For several years everyone was sure STL got scalped sending Arozarena to TB getting nothing in return. Now he is kinda done and STL has possibly an emerging ace. Can't judge deals too early. This might end up a positive for STL and Miami might make out if Luzardo's back acts up again and Caba becomes a star SS.
This is why GMs are so cautious dealing prospects. NO ONE knows how they will turn out. Look at Walker. We could have traded him for a star pitcher 2 years ago.

Re: The trade for Jesus
Not everyone would think that trading for a SP who didn't pitch at all after June last year was such a smart move, but if your crystal ball tells you he would have his best start ever, of course you would.
The OP looks a lot like just another chance to pile on management.

Re: The trade for Jesus
Well, back when Sanchez and Luzardo were with the Marlins and looked to be available, lots of us on here suggested possible trade scenarios.
Then later, with hindsight when one of those now looks good, we like to remember it while mostly forgetting the ones that don't look so good with the benefit of hindsight, lol.
That said, both those SP's at the time had lower, reasonable type trade values where why not take a chance on trading for them, as both had already shown some promise on the MLB stage? This is where good projections with players on your roster that you probably don't try to extend after arb., but still have decent value can be traded during one of their peaks in value.
