Small sample and ages to go. But this isn't some fluke where there are warning signs everywhere that they are outperforming their production in terms of W/L
The lineup is legit. Up and down the lineup these guys are doing damage. They hit for high average and get on base at an excellent clip. They don't strike out much and they hit with RISP.
The pitching has been darn good and the starting pitching has been excellent for the most of the season.
The defense is maybe the best in baseball thus far.
They have a healthy top ten rank in run differential.
They are excellent at home and now winning on the road.
They have depth in the minors (McGreevey and Saggese) ready to go
This isn't like last year, where their W-L outperformed their production. You can look nearly anywhere you want at the team stats, and dissect them anyway you want, but it all comes out the same... they are pretty good in all 3 phases of the game.

LB, absolutely, this team is freakishly good.

Re: This isn't a fluke. The team is good
There was a thread last week complaining that the Cards haven't beaten anyone. They are currently 12-10 against teams over .500.
Good post. No matter how you slice it, this team is solid.
They are actually underperforming, as their expected W/L is 25-19.
Need to find a way to win a couple games in KC.

Pitching has to stay healthy. I know that's pretty obvious, but losing a starter would be really hard. Zero depth at AAA right now. McGreevy and that's it.
Offense looks great, even without guys like Gorman and Walker doing anything. Took a few years, but I think this is the offense that we thought we'd be getting the last few seasons. Probably helps that they aren't forcing Winn into leadoff and Noot into an RBI role. If they could just think about swapping Arenado and Herrera maybe we could drive in even more runs.

This was supposed to be a road trip that we found out who they were. I think most people would have been happy with a 5-4 road trip over these 9 games. Well 6 games in and they've already gotten to 5 wins. Let's get a 7-2 road trip.cardinalsfever44 wrote: ↑14 May 2025 21:03 pm There was a thread last week complaining that the Cards haven't beaten anyone. I'm hoping we don't lose a starter, but if we did we do have McGreevy. It would be hard to lose two starters though.Ronnie Dobbs wrote: ↑14 May 2025 21:06 pm Pitching has to stay healthy. Generally speaking, the team just needs to stay mostly healthy.

The starting staff has been good all year. Nobody has been a serious problem. The bullpen had issues to start but it seems they've found some answers.

You don't know how good you are until late May.
So we should know on Friday. It is foolish to discuss it today.

Good maybe. Currently power ranked 16. What is the goal? If it is to be a contender for a WS they aren’t even close. Missing 2 superstar bats (with power) and a TOR SP. so I guess if you mean a contender for a WC then yea great. Still a long way to go to close the gap. Need to spend that 100m they will have cleared between last year and this end of year on those 3 players.Lloyd Braun wrote: ↑14 May 2025 20:52 pm Small sample and ages to go. Re: This isn't a fluke. The team is good
They need a better cleanup
They have a better option than Miles in McGreevy
And if Walker/Gorman don’t start hitting consistently they need to be sent down and replaced with a more reliable bat.
Put best team on the field…..stop playing development dreams and “contracts”
The central is there for the taking!

Is it? Wait until the other teams get healthy like the Cardinals have been all year and the Cubs add at deadline. Then we can see.Goldfan wrote: ↑14 May 2025 21:49 pm They need a better cleanup

This team needs to make moves to solidify starters and possibly add at deadline instead of throwing in the towel for the season……like they planned to do coming into the year. So don’t sell all these pending FA and Aranado that could add to the future for a chance at the last WC? I disagree. The goal is the WS and they need superstars. Adding to a team like this is the recipe to stay in the 12-15th best team in baseball range.Goldfan wrote: ↑14 May 2025 21:54 pmThis team needs to make moves to solidify starters and possibly add at deadline instead of throwing in the towel for the season……like they planned to do coming into the year. What do you consider power? They are 9th in baseball in SLG%. They are 2nd in doubles behind Arizona.Youboughtit wrote: ↑14 May 2025 21:49 pmGood maybe. Currently power ranked 16. What is the goal? And I think they are missing one star bat. Or at the very least a solid upgrade over Walker.
You've got 7 hitters in the lineup today that have a 113 or better OPS+.
And Gray/Libby at the top is still a pretty solid 1-2 punch. Outside of today Gray has been mostly good. Libby has been pitching fantastically and has gone toe to toe with Wheeler and Skenes proving he can top the best of the best.
It'd be a nice wish to have a superstar bat and an ace, but is it realistic to add even one of them? Probably not right now.
