I am also a naysayer.

I hope he does and the Cards go on an epic run. But I don’t see it happening. I’m still cautiously optimistic at best that this pitching rotation can hold up against tougher competition.

"They shoulda give that award to Daniel Descalso!"
I can just hear it now...

I'm one of his biggest haters and I hope he wins MOY by a landslide because it would mean the Cardinals likely made the playoffs.
Additionally, he's been a different manager this year. He only had 3 big traits that prevented him from being an effective manager:
-pulling starters way too early when they're clearly cruising and sitting down the oppo left and right
-burning through bp arms like kindling
-constantly shuffling the entire lineup and sitting starters when the team needed them the most
I don't know if he's finally learning or what but he's not doing those 3 things to the point of madness any longer.
Keep on keepin' on, Oli!

He should probably not want the award, it should be considered a cursed award.
2024: Pat Murphy, Brewers (2025: 20-23 so far)
2023: Skip Schumaker, Marlins (2024: 62-100, mutually parted ways after 2024)
2022: Buck Showalter, Mets (2023: 75-87, fired after 2023 season)
2021: Gabe Kapler, Giants (2022: 81-81, fired during 2023 season)
2020: Don Mattingly, Marlins (2021: 67-95, fired after 2022 season)
2019: Mike Shildt, Cardinals (2020: 30-28, fired after 2021 season)
So last 5 NL MOY’s prior to Murphy were fired within 2 seasons of winning the award. And the only following season that was a “winning” season was Shildt, which was 2020.

The exact intent on my entry and you save me numerous words. I said he was not my favorite. I said he is better. Like you that’s fair praise.blackinkbiz wrote: ↑14 May 2025 09:00 amI'm one of his biggest haters and I hope he wins MOY by a landslide because it would mean the Cardinals likely made the playoffs.

The Oli hate on here is cartoonish. The truth is, he's okay. Not great. Not terrible. Just okay.

He has a roster this year that is harder to mismanage. Still not getting Walker+Gorman all that much PT in their "runway" year though, and needed Siani taken away from him for his own good.Strummer Jones wrote: ↑14 May 2025 09:21 am The Oli hate on here is cartoonish. Agreed. He’s not great but he’s not the root of all problems the way some here think. I think the hate comes from the way Shildt was let go and his comments. Makes Oli extra seem like a puppet for the front office.Strummer Jones wrote: ↑14 May 2025 09:21 am The Oli hate on here is cartoonish. The truth is, he's okay. Not great. Not terrible. Just okay.

I had a similar epiphany of the award.
La Russa, Cox and Torre won the far bulk of division titles for a 15 year period and almost never won MOY. It was proof that the award was specifically given to managers who aren't the best.
It's almost better to not win a MOY, because that means you win games so often, year after year, that the expectations eliminate you from the award to begin with.
