The Oilers beat the Panthers 3 times a few months ago.

The Panthers won 4 out of 7 a few months ago.

How good would EDM be with Holloway and Broberg?
Even they would have likely figured them out by now in giving them the minutes.

I feel like it is the Oil or bust for the cup for Canada. I suppose we can't rule out the Leafs but I'm not so sure they get out of this series and even if they do Carolina is one of the most talented under the radar teams in a long time. I've watched several of their playoff games, and even with my lack of knowledge, they sure seem like a handful to play against and have a ton of speed and skill and the special teams are outstanding. Best thing that can happen for the Leafs is they win and the Caps come back. I'm not understanding how the Caps got the top seed. They look average at best most of the playoffs. They look to be playing on borrowed money and the bank is about to close. I just don't see the Jets doing a thing with they way Helly has settled in on the road in crunch time or anytime really. He's just been brutal and Dallas just looks better.

Blue, I read your post and thought what the heck, why do people always throw around 1993 then. But Tampa beat Calgary in 7 games that year.bluecalgary wrote: ↑13 May 2025 08:55 amIf I can be a sour grapes guy... The last time a Canadian team won the Cup was in 2004 by the Calgary Flames.... That's kinda been Carolina's MO these past 4 or 5 seasons.George Zipp wrote: ↑13 May 2025 08:18 am I feel like it is the Oil or bust for the cup for Canada. Dominate the first 2 rounds, completely forget how to play hockey in the 3rd round.
Maybe this year is different, but I wouldn't put money on it.

Plus Freddie Andersen has to stay healthy. That’s far from certain.TheJackBurton wrote: ↑13 May 2025 09:03 amThat's kinda been Carolina's MO these past 4 or 5 seasons.George Zipp wrote: ↑13 May 2025 08:18 am I feel like it is the Oil or bust for the cup for Canada. Re: The last time a Canadian Team won the cup…..
Well in order I had Dallas - Avs - Oil - Vegas - Toronto - Florida - Tampa. Those were my cup contenders about 2 months ago. Obviously matchups have dictated which ones are possible and which ones aren't.
But Vegas looks like frauds these playoffs. The Toronto - Florida matchup is the marquee one going. If Dallas wins tonight, have to assume they dust winnipeg as that team is the team you don't want to keep building confidence. The only team I can never wrap my head around and they are going to be looking to take that next step is Carolina.
I personally wouldn't care if a Canadian team won the cup. It would be nice for McDavid and Drai to get one, I hate when the best in the sport don't get one. To be honest, with the way Matthews is playing in Toronto, (everyone saying he's injured again) if you had to pick one it would definitely be the Oil or the Jets over the Leafs.
That being said, there isn't a team left I'd "root" for so who gives a hoot. All I see are potential problems moving forward.
