Leo Mazzone the greatest pitching coach said this is why so many pitching injuries
Max effort pitching. He said that all braves efforts were put on movement, change of speed, and location. Velocity was 4th on the list.He said a good pitcher throws at 85% of his full effort and they learn to save the best for late in game.

Everyone knows this already. What do you suggest to fix it?

Dave Duncan is the greatest pitching coach of this era.
Leo had THREE Hall of Fame starters who made him look good.

Well no, he wasn't. Leo got great results from non-HoF pitchers too. There's no need to ding him for having Maddux, Glavine, and Smoltz around.Dave Duncan is the greatest pitching coach of this era.
Johnny Sain was probably the greatest pitching coach of all time.

You are an absolute meathead. The Braves were garbage for decades and played in a Launching Pad, and Mazzone turned that staff into world beaters.rockondlouie wrote: ↑11 May 2025 08:53 am Dave Duncan is the greatest pitching coach of this era.

Dunc' did way more with way, way less.
Leo good but he rode three Hall of Famers.
And not a ding to say Dunc' was better.

I agree with Sain. And it could be said Mazzone made all the mentioned even better. But don’t state that Duncan had way , way less talent because it isn’t so. Although arguing who is the best pitching coach is just an opinion with no statistical way to measure.rockondlouie wrote: ↑11 May 2025 10:22 amNopejcgmoi wrote: ↑11 May 2025 09:13 amWell no, he wasn't. We’re currently in a different era. Duncan didn’t have 4/5 of his pitching staff throwing 95+, didn’t have the technology or the statistics available, which is why he had the huge binders full of hitters tendencies. He was a pitching coach of an era gone by. A great one, certainly, but not of this erarockondlouie wrote: ↑11 May 2025 08:53 am Dave Duncan is the greatest pitching coach of this era.

Good point… the game has changed since either of them were coaching. It’s also silly to argue who was a better coach.woofy25 wrote: ↑11 May 2025 11:41 amWe’re currently in a different era. Mazzone is right. It also doesn’t make sense for today’s starters to save their bullets for the later innings, when they’re probably getting yanked in the 5th or 6th, no matter their results. Plus, nobody gets paid for ground balls unless their name is Mikes Mikolas.
