Thanks, man. In Red’s defense, he wasn’t implying cheating is okayHazelwood72 wrote: ↑10 May 2025 20:40 pmThanks, ecleme. That’s a very intelligent response. Best I’ve seen so far. I’m going to ignore the cheating vs. fair play responses — your response hits the mail on the head. It really DOES matter how you win. If you’re winning with bad defense, poor fundamentals, etc, in pro sports, it will catch up on you.ecleme22 wrote: ↑10 May 2025 18:50 pm Well there are instances, like the 2003 cardinals. In June, they were a really good 16-11 record, but gave up 172 runs. 11 of those wins they gave up 5+ runs.
So while those 11 wins were great, the way they were getting the wins was unsustainable.
The 2003 team would be in 1st place the end of June. Wouldn’t last…
Does it reall matter how you win?

Oh no, I wasn’t criticizing Red at all. I was just clarifying that I was talking about “quality” of wins rather than legality.ecleme22 wrote: ↑10 May 2025 21:42 pmThanks, man. Re: Does it reall matter how you win?
Anybody care how the Cardinals got some of those wins in the 2006 World Series?
The Tigers committed 8-errors in the five games.
They don't don't care how, they just care how many.

I was agreeing w you that the thread got off from the original intention of the op.
My fault for not explaining better.
Re: Does it reall matter how you win?
Not an individual game, no. Sometimes you win ugly. However, ugly baseball doesn’t win consistently. That’s true in any sport. That being said, winning DOES breed confidence. A few ugly wins and the next thing you know, you’re playing like a team that EXPECTS to win rather than a team that HOPES to win or worse, expects to lose. One of the hardest thing for a young pitcher to learn is how to win without your best stuff. Maybe your arm is a little sore. Maybe you’re going through a dead arm stage, but you find a way. Getting back to the OP, how you play matters more than how you win, particularly for an individual game.
