Depends on what you mean. It matters that you don't cheat and you play in an honorable manner, but other than that a win is a win, whether you win on a home run or a passed ball.

Well there are instances, like the 2003 cardinals. In June, they were a really good 16-11 record, but gave up 172 runs. 11 of those wins they gave up 5+ runs.

So while those 11 wins were great, the way they were getting the wins was unsustainable.

The 2003 team would be in 1st place the end of June. Wouldn’t last…

A win is a win.
The question was does it matter how you win. Yes it matters that you don't cheat.

So you have no problem as to how the Astros went about winning? Got it.

Some sports lend themselves to cheating more than others.
I was a bowler.. thr pins you knock down are 60 ft away so you
can’t manipulate pins knocked down plus if you slide your foot even a fraction of inch over foul line in league/tournament the buzzer sounds…foul. And counts as zero

Now if you golf.. oh boy tons of ways people cheat..moving ball not counting all strike played..penalty strokes etc.
Saying in golf.., those who cheat at golf are also ones who cheat in life. Very true !

Yea, it matters. Think about a game where a team comes from behind in the bottom of the ninth for a gritty win, vs. a team that goes up by a bunch and almost blows it by being lax, and opening up the floodgates in the last few innings.

If the cards won 10-9 yesterday and Fedde went 3 2/3 and gave up 7 runs, then a win just wouldn’t be a win.

Fedde’s era would be over 5, we would arguably have a starter issue, and his trade value would go down.

Also, the bullpen overworked.

We aren't trading Fedde. No reason why he isn't offered a QO. Let's see the rest of starts.

Heard KC called Mo asking what he would want for Fedde
Mo replied: Oh you interested in our new ace who just had complete game shutout? Well, it would take Bobby Witt Jr plus a young pitcher for starters.
Wild laughter ensues from KC . Mo interjects.. I was just kidding.. Bobby Witt for Fedde… one for one will do it ! Do we have a deal ?
LOL.

Thanks, ecleme. That’s a very intelligent response. Best I’ve seen so far. I’m going to ignore the cheating vs. fair play responses — your response hits the mail on the head. It really DOES matter how you win. If you’re winning with bad defense, poor fundamentals, etc, in pro sports, it will catch up on you.

I enjoy offensive eruptions the most but when it’s all said and done wins are the name of the game. Matters not. Sac bunt, steal home etc.

It stands to reason that it doesn’t matter how you lose either.

In the long run it does. The old saw about "every team wins 60 games (except the Rockies) & loses 60 games, it's what you do in the other 60 that counts (added a little Yogiism)". You can play winning baseball & lose games, you can play [shirt]ty ball and luck into a win sometimes. That's the beauty of 162 games.

It’s always nice for players in a walk year to have a good TV.

Also, I’m sure if Fedde had a stinker yesterday you wouldn’t be salivating about a QO.
