Thx duce, they're still not out

Big outing for Pallante who's been struggling (last 3 GS: 6.06 ERA/6.35 FiP).

If he can't go a solid six vs that weak lineup, then he's really headed in the wrong direction.

interesting (to me anyhow).
Sims pitched in last night's game.

By Anthony Franco | May 9, 2025 at 9:46pm CDT

The Nationals announced that they’ve placed veteran reliever Lucas Sims on release waivers. They’ll make a corresponding bullpen move tomorrow. They now have a vacancy on the 40-man roster.

It’s an abrupt end to what proved to be a brief stint in Washington. Sims was on the mound for the Nats roughly an hour ago. He had a nightmare outing in a blowout loss to the Cardinals. Sims entered in the eighth inning with the Nationals trailing 6-0. He hit a batter (his MLB-leading seventh HBP of the season), walked four more, and gave up a hit in a three-run inning. He recorded two outs before being lifted for Andrew Chafin.

I saw this lineup for the Cardinals today :

LF L. Nootbaar L
SS Masyn Winn R
2B B. Donovan L
3B N. Arenado R
1B W. Contreras R
C Ivan Herrera R
DH A. Burleson L
RF J. Walker R
CF Victor Scott L

Above was Expected Lineup ..........Will see later if this lineup proves correct . So Herrera hits 6th yet but is behind the plate today . Burly is 7th and DH with Walker in RF batting 8th .. . Oli sticking with his top 6 order pretty regular now.

have to assume 2 things.. Nats don't run much, and STL is still trying to salvage Ivan as a MLB catcher

+1 it’s dumb Herrera hits right handers better than burly but all oli see is right and left handed

The only way to explain this is if Herrera still needs some occasional rest with the knee. Otherwise he needs to be in the lineup every day, period.

The only logical explanation is that this gives Herrera a chance to rest his knees. And with 4 of the next 7 games after today being vs LHP where Burleson won’t play at all (or shouldn’t), it’s ok with me. Otherwise, Marmol continues to be dumb, which is certainly a possibility.

Hopefully we jump on the pitcher and it won’t matter. He hasn’t been any good this year. He’s given up 8+ hits in 3 of his 7 starts and 5+ hits in 6 of his 7 starts.

Easing Herrera back in does make some sense.
And Burleson has swung the bat better lately plus RH pitcher on the mound.
Won’t react to one game!

I thought possibly the same thing. His knee may have been a tad sore this morning ? It's easy to rake Oli over the coals for 'sitting' him but if Herrera told Oli /trainers it was a bit tender yet , no way Oli is going to play him. So I won't condemn the manager without knowing the situation.
We may still see Hererra in a pinch hitting role at a crucial time of the game today. It doesn't mean he won't make a plate appearance later in the game.
