And while we spent a 2nd, we also got a 4th back along with Cam. If this deal happened on trade deadline day, it’d be talked about as the best deadline deal in the league. Cam has been fantastic for us. Glad he’s here and he makes the outlook of next season look a lot better too.
On the NHL Network last night Mike Johnson said it may be the best in season trade acquisition of the year. He’s not sure any trade made during the season has altered the course for one team as much as the Fowler trade did for the Blues.

Wonder how much his value has increased? I think he would cost a team a 1st rounder and a 2nd rounder now. Maybe even more. I bet if he comes even close to duplicating his play from this year next year he'd probably be worth a couple 1st round picks.

For Fowler? Two first-round picks would be ambitious.

Come on now, Army was trading his 2nd for a 4th and the Ducks threw in Fowler to get the league to approve the deal.

54 combined games as a Blue
10 goals, 33 assists +18
setting franchise records
helping the Blues get back in this series
in return for moving down from about pick 60 to pick 110 two summers from now?
yeah that's a good trade, that worked out well

I can't believe people were against it, even if we didn't make the playoffs we need guys like him to help our future develop.

Long term, it was a win-win for both teams - the Ducks were ready to move on, in early stages of a rebuild, Fowler was a leader, team-guy, mgmt felt they owed him a shot in a more competitive environment. I remember he made the flight and played the same night the trade was announced, which showed exactly where his head was at.

DA was johnny-on-the-spot for that dealio. Fowler's play blossomed, again. Like many things in life, an emergent process, a synergy. Part of this year's somewhat amazing evolution from mediocrity to a team everyone in the league knows is a hard out.

Seemed like it was a set play. At the start, Fowler was stationed a long while with the puck behind his own goal, patiently waiting for things to develop

At the time of the trade, I joked that all the Blues broadcasters demanded this trade, they didn't ever want to deal with pronouncing Jeremie Biakabutuka. (one of the trade pieces going to Anaheim)

I was rifling through players on hockey-reference and saw this trade again: Fowler and our 2nd for Biakabutuka and their 4th.

Essentially they gave us a top pair defenseman for 40 slots in the draft. Definitely one of the top two or three trades of the year. :D

You don't want to leave anybody out.

Dallas, Thank you for Faska, for having so many young C's that you could jettison your oldest, weakest, and most costly. On our team, he is one of the best. Army is not strong on acquiring Cs.

Edmonton, Thank you for Broberg and Holloway, for having 2 great players on your bench watching all your superstar players. On our team, they are the best prospects that we have in the whole organization, and they are the straws that stir the drink. Army is not strong on acquiring prospects.

Anaheim, Thank you for Fowler. Fowler has filled the Pietrangelo hole that Army has been trying to fill for 5+ years without success. If only you could have gifited him to us about 800 games ago. Do you have any other D's in your pipleline like Fowler? Army is not strong on acquiring Ds.

Columbus, Thank you for Texier. Thanks for nothing. Army is strong on acquiring worthless, expensive veterans.

Without these 2025 gifts from other organizations, the Blues would have been left to hunt and defend with only Army's men. All the fans would be dead about 6 months ago.

Classic example of a player needing a change of scenery. DA isn't stupid, they aren't going to give him a max contract. But the guy has proven that he still has a lot of playing life left. He's not a banger and those guys usually last a little longer. I can see giving him a 2 or 3 extension.

I'm happy for Fowler. He's played well in STL. That was a good move by Army. It's got to suck so bad to be a long time member of a bad team. He's making the most of his opportunity to be on a better team that actually has a chance. Good for him, good for the Blues and good for us fans.
