The original Scrabble! He was one of those players who was good and steady but not great, part of the revolving door that second base was for Cardinals during those glory days of the mid-aughts. From -02 to -07 our starting 2Bs were, in order: Vina, Hart, Womack, Grudzkldjfjdkshfkdh, Miles, Kennedy. They finally moved outfielder Skip Schumaker at 2B for a few years and it worked out great.

On this date in 1980, the Cardinals purchased Jim Kaat’s rights from the New York Yankees. The future Hall of Famer spent four years with the Cardinals and was a valuable bullpen piece for the 1982 world champions:
