Trade Kyrou or Not?

Post by a smell of green grass »

I'm curious. Keep or trade Kyrou?

If you trade him, what value do you think we should get in return.

My thought....
I would trade him if I could get a Round 1 for him.

Dumb idea, 30+ goal scorer cant be replaced at $8 mill a year, there isnt much wrong with Kyrou aside from post playoff emotions. Its becoming a very team friendly deal. True statement that the Jets were a tough matchup for him yes he got absolutely nailed by Stanley but he got up and played.
10gs in his last 19 playoff games....

I guess it depends on what kind of first round pick (big difference between the third pick and the 28th), but I don't see why. He led the team in goals by a mile, was fourth in assist, led the team in plus minus, only just turned 27 on Monday. With more time playing with Holloway, he could easily be a 40 goal guy. Your odds of of drafting a 40 goal guy are not great, and if you try to sign one it will cost more than 8 million bucks. His age also really fits what you are trying to do. You don't want an 18 year old project who might become something. You are ready to win now.

By trading him for a Round 1, do you mean a 1st round pick? If so, then hell no. Maybe for a top-5 pick but even then, that’d be going backwards on the development curve. We need players that are good NOW, not ones that’ll make an impact 5 or so years from now.

Would I be opposed to trading him though? No. But it’d be for a very narrow asset in return - a center or RD of equal value. Or a better C of RD with the Blues adding something to the package to make it even. No picks, no prospects. I don’t expect that trade to happen given how narrow the parameters are and how C and RD are the two most sought after positions in the game, but that’s the only two things I’d consider trading Kyrou for.

Brady can be traded before July same a Kyou, same money. I can see Army asking at least not sure what the package for BT would be. Kyrou/Dvorsky/Bolduc + 1st for Brady Tkackuk/Pinto??? Idk thats so hypothetical

Not a chance. He hasn't even had his career year yet. The guy has 40+ goal potential.

Would you trade Kyrou to Ottawa for Pinto ? Would you demand more from Ottawa?

No. I like Pinto but as a 3C. He has a career high of 37 pts. I think he might flirt with 50 for a season or two but Kyrou is worth way more. I just don’t see a deal to be made for Kyrou where Pinto is the main piece coming back the other way.

I'm curious. How do you feel his playoff performance was? What do you think is his playoff potential?

Colorado just traded Rantenan for 2 1s, even though they are "in their playoff window". Colorado handles their roster pretty well from what I can tell.
This business of building a roster for one magic window is foolish. I'll take a pipeline of good talent instead. If there is room on this bus for Fowler and Suter at the old end, I think that there is also room for a young superstar.

If trade for an asset, I'm guessing that that asset would have potential "holes" as big or bigger than Kyrou. For sure, we don't want another one of Armstrong's "injury-risk" players.

The ideal trade would be to get a winger more in line with team identity. It's not good to have a team of lunch pale bruisers, and one guy in a tutu.
Kyrou for another Holloway, etc. Even Kyrou for another Bolduc. That would be the perfect trade I think.

I hear you. It would be stupid to give up a known quantity.

I also think that it can't help any of our wingers to not have a solid and steady 2C.

No they didn’t you moron. They traded him for Necas, Drury and a 2nd.

And the Avs just got bounced by the team Rantanen ended up on so are you sure they’re really the pillar of excellence you want to hold up?

In the presser, Army had said they want to add a 200 foot offensive player. I don't think that means subtracting your best goal scorer to do that. I think if anything they would move other pieces to get what they wanted or if the player is available in free agency make a signing. For what it's worth it sounds like they'd be the most comfortable doing hockey trades as they were trying to do those at the deadline.
