Re: Baker sent down
Was baker not offered a contract with a Japanese/Foreign team? Should have taken it.
Re: Baker sent down
Add something to him and get something good or just do right and find him an opportunity.
IMO, Pozo staying suggest Herrera knee is iffy.
That will really crowd the DH situation. They'll keep Burleson,
Walker or Gormans, long runway could be getting shorter.

The Cardinals haven't figured out the utility of the DH yet.

All the bashing on Herrera defensively. Isn't this the reboot year. Pages and Pozo are not starting Catcher material. Pages has not been all that. They are backups. Give Herrera the time to be comfortable at the position and see what ample time as a starter would look like. Then if he doesn't perform move him. Reset year. Patience required.

Re: Baker sent down
I think they should keep Herrera even if he doesn’t catch. Let him learn to play the corner outfield spots and 1b and sometimes catch while spending most of his time at DH and he replaces burlys role. Herrera can hit righties and lefties well and doesn’t need to be platooned like burly and hes a way better hitterkscardsfan wrote: ↑08 May 2025 11:07 am All the bashing on Herrera defensively. I think this is more about a knee that isn't ready.kscardsfan wrote: ↑08 May 2025 11:07 am All the bashing on Herrera defensively. Isn't this the reboot year. Easy wrong since real reasons to do things don't always exist.
I don't see any real attachment the team may have with Pozo.

There's little that I see in the organization as a 1B of the future.
It less crowded than Catch anyway. His bat could play at 1B when that time comes.
Re: Baker sent down
If Bumbles keeps hitting, I don't see Herrera being a full time DH, but think he'll be the DH against lefties and C against righties. We got 2 of three lefties this weekend so he'll get a lot of opportunities to DH.
You can still bring in Pages as a late game catcher in close games.

Re: Baker sent down
Herrera is a career .310 .385 hitter against righties which is better than burly against them the last thing he needs to do is be wasted as a platoon player when he hits better against righties than the left handed hitters and burly isn’t going to keep hitting he is what he has always beengpeeps22 wrote: ↑08 May 2025 11:27 am If Bumbles keeps hitting, I don't see Herrera being a full time DH, but think he'll be the DH against lefties and C against righties. This move suggests that the knee isn't 100%, He was DHing ing Memphis I believe.
Walker may get platooned, IMO.

Dude. Outside of his 2023, there was nothing signaling he even deserved to be called up to majors.StlMike1969 wrote: ↑08 May 2025 07:58 amThis times 10. He will eventually get traded or leave as a free agent and some team will give him the same chance guys like Walker and Gorman have gotten. He certainly can fill the role as an everyday 1st baseman or DH if given the chance to get into a groove. He may only have a 3 or 4 year window of success as a late bloomer, but I predict he will somewhere. A shame our system is so beholden to contracts and manager favorites.Monsieur De Treville wrote: ↑08 May 2025 07:19 am I feel bad for this kid...
Let's not pretend he's had multiple shots and failed. He's 28 and has had a grand total of 160 ABs spread out over 3 seasons. 34 ABs this season and he has a higher OPS than Burly, Walker, or Gorman.
I'm not saying he's Boog Powell...but he just hasn't really had a legit shot to either succeed or fail in The Show.
His 2024 triple a season isnt that impressive for a 27 year old. He did crush memphis in extreme way in 2023, but he wasnt even close to replicating that dominance in 2024.
Re: Baker sent down
Now finish the job. Send down Walker, Gorman, and Barrero. Bring up Saggese, Fermin, and Koperniak.
If you don't like Koperniak then keep Barrero but for pete's sake don't play him at shortstop.
I might even send Walker to Springfield which is probably where he should have started. Just begin his development all over and let him work through it.

Not sure what is strange? All I did was post some facts and my opinion that I feel bad he hasn't had a legit opportunity.Alex Reyes Cy Young wrote: ↑08 May 2025 08:53 amStrange take.
