No point in really trading him if he's still lost, he has no current value, and if he continues to struggle you will get nothing at all for him. You would be better off sending him to triple A and crossing your fingers that he builds some valueJuanAgosto wrote: ↑07 May 2025 23:14 pm If he's still lost by the end of July, trade him. He's had ample opportunity. Play Saggese, Barrero, and maybe Prieto.

Re: Gorman: How much longer?
I've been an avid supporter of giving Burly, Gorman, and Walker all the "runway" they need to attempt to become the hitters they've shown flashes of.
But that runway should come with one caveat. Your speed has to increase and lift must be generated as you near takeoff. Other than Burly (who doesn't look great but is at least showing something positive) all they're doing is leaving potholes on the tarmac.
Trading them now is dumb because they've lost all their value. Send Gorman and Walker down and make them refind their power stroke because flailing away every day hurts them, the team, and my eyes.

No. You don't need the entire yearrussellhammond wrote: ↑08 May 2025 07:07 am First of all Gorman is 25 in two days, so he's 25. But that's been the argument from the beginning with him...."he's only 21," he's only 22," "he's only 23," "he's only 24," now "he's only 25." At some point he has to become something other than his age. I've been as critical as anyone of his talent, or lack thereof but given that this year is not expected to be a contending season, you have to give him an entire year of MLB play to see if he can become some kind of player of value. He can't be traded, there's no reason to send him back to Memphis so just put him in the lineup on a regular basis and then he sinks or swims.

Re: Gorman: How much longer?
Excellent post. The league figured him out and he never adjusted. This is one of the hardest parts of this game. Staying elite and making adjustments. Absolutely impossible to do for mere mortals.Ronnie Dobbs wrote: ↑08 May 2025 07:32 am Bernie put out a video yesterday about Gorman and Walker. Gorman's swing and miss is way down this year, but so is his hard contact. His bat speed is somewhere near the bottom of the league. So yea, while he's cut down on the strikeouts, the power has diminished.
It's crazy. He showed so much potential a few years ago. He went through that run where he was looking like a long term 30+ HR guy, then the league figured out how to pitch to him and he never adjusted. I keep waiting for the adjustment, because you know the talent is there, but it may never come. It sucks.
Re: Gorman: How much longer?
They’re either sticking with struggling young guys, aka runway, or they’re trying to compete. Can’t really do both
Re: Gorman: How much longer?
His statcast suggests his problem is actually being too tentative. His Chase and Walk rates are elite this year, and his bat speed and EV are way down.
He's taking too many pitches, and swinging weakly when he decides to attack. But his Chase rate indicates his pitch identification and swing decisions are pretty good.
So the solution is to be more decisive with his swings. I suggested above that he needs to use his first two strikes to attack with authority, and then shorten up in 2-strike counts to try and put the ball in play. Pretty basic.

Re: Gorman: How much longer?
I’d either look at packaging Gorman for a good player somewhere or look at dealing him for another young player who has lost some luster. Like Kyle Harrison from the Giants maybe or something like that.

41.3% hard hit rate
Re: Gorman: How much longer?
This is a fairly easy decision. He has not shown the ability to play at this level. Others behind him should get a shot. They can’t be worse than him. Move him to AAA. If he folds there then he needs to find his own way outside the Cards system.
Re: Gorman: How much longer?
So he’s done the anti Matt Carpenter and sacrificed power for contact. And he’s worse than ever.Ronnie Dobbs wrote: ↑08 May 2025 07:32 am Bernie put out a video yesterday about Gorman and Walker. His HR/Flyball% is 3.8% (career low), while his Flyball% is 56.5% (career high). His career numbers for those are 17.7% and 49%.

In a reset patience is required. A week or so ago the cry was about Contreras. Give Gorman, Walker, and Burleson until Aug 1. Then if they bombed move on from them.

I disagree on the compete part. Not a point of competing but more icing on the cake.

Exactly. 2-3 year plan is a long time. Patience is probably the most needed ingredient at this point. .kscardsfan wrote: ↑08 May 2025 11:36 am In a reset patience is required. Re: Gorman: How much longer?
His 2023 numbers are soo good for a 2b especially. 27 homers and 76rbis 406 at bats. The skill is there.
He's 24, I say you give him another year to figure it out. Team is not a World Series team anyway.
